Iโve been getting sooo many messages.
โAre you open?โ
โDo you have flowers today?โ
โI miss your posts!โ
โARE YOU ALIVE?!โ
So โฆ I thought I would give you a little garden tour and explain why we are not open yet! ๐ Long story short, the seedlings are like โฆ an inch high, you guys!
Also, yes, I straight up missed peony season. They are the best flower, but they ALL bloomed weeks early. Like, crazy early and crazy fast. I blinked and they were gone! I love Flower Farming but itโs not my only gig. I had to prioritize other work and wasnโt able to get the stand open for peonies โฆ and there just wasnโt much to put with them. So, I selfishly kept them for myself. ;)
Flowers in Michigan donโt usually get going until the end of June. Iโll have lilies and a few other things soon, and I PROMISE Iโll shout it from the rooftops when I do!
Shout out to todayโs jar faerie and all the jar faeries who have shown up lately! I appreciate you SO MUCH!! ๐ค
Hours of work condensed down to 30 seconds โ we got the tulips in the ground today! The first half were planted in a milk crate trench. This is a ton of work but vital to protect hundreds of bulbs from hungry voles (jerk faces). We donโt own any heavy machinery here so a LOT of our work on the farm is all done by hand. This may be the last time we dig a tulip trench, though. Half way through we hatched a plan for a more efficient tulip layout for next year. (We always have one eye on the next year!)
Donโt blame Goldenrod! This beautiful plant isnโt the cause of your fall allergies, I promise. The real culprit is RAGWEED, which blooms at the same exact time, but its flowers are small and not showy, so you probably donโt notice it at all. Ragweedโs pollen is so fine, it travels for miles. Goldenrod does produce pollen, but itโs too large to travel very far, so unless you have your face right on top of it, itโs pretty unlikely that Goldenrod is responsible for your misery.
Goldenrod is not only beautiful, but itโs an extremely important food source for pollinators. If you have space on your property, let it thrive! Youโll be rewarded by late-season visits from Monarch butterflies.

The making of a Buddy & Bean bridal bouquet. Everything I used was started from seed and grown right here on the farm. I had been working on this for a few months โ I knew which dahlias and fillers I wanted to use, and through careful planning and a little bit of magical timing, everything was ready the night before the wedding. This is my absolute favorite color palate to work with, so I had a lot of fun cutting for this and putting it together โ I had to hold myself back a bit! This one features not only the queen of Dahlias herself, but some specialty celosia, zinnias, and all kinds of fancy little touches. So fun to make and an honor as always to be a small part of a special day!
A note on vase life โ something that is so important to me! When you purchase flowers from Buddy & Bean, they are true fresh-cut flowers grown right here on the farm. Harvested at the correct time for each flower, conditioned, and put together with care so that you can enjoy them for a long as possible.
The bouquet in this video is SEVEN days old.
Iโve done my part โ hereโs some quick tips to make your bouquet last as long as possible once you bring it home:
โ Fresh water every day (if you donโt want to drink it, neither do your flowers!)
โ Keep them out of direct sunlight
โ Give the ends a little snip to revive
โ Enjoy your locally grown flowers! โค๏ธ
If you donโt follow us on Instagram (@buddyandbeanfarm) you may be on the edge of your seat wondering if we survived the frost! ๐
Well, we did wake up to quite a bit of frost yesterday ... but the jar method worked and everything survived! So glad I took the time to cover. Hereโs a quick video of waking up the zinnias and dahlias.
