It's National Anthem Day! You're an American! 😍 🇺🇸 Learn the and the US CODE to YOUR National Anthem!

Sept 14, 1814 - Francis Scott Key wrote the poem after witnessing the dramatic British bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.

July 27, 1889 - Secretary of the Navy Benjamin F. Tracy signed General Order #374, officially marking "The Star-Spangled Banner" as the song to be played at the raising of the flag.

Sept. 5, 1918 - The first time the Anthem was played at a sporting event...Secondary to WWI and shortened rosters, the 1918 MLB season ended early, and it marked the only time the “October Classic” was played entirely in September. During the seventh inning stretch of Game 1, the military band struck up an impromptu rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner.” Red Sox third baseman Fred Thomas, playing while on leave from the Navy, snapped to attention and saluted the flag. The rest of the players turned to face the flag with their hands on their hearts. Fans followed suit. As the band played the final notes, the entire stadium joined in the melody.

March 3, 1931 - In 1929, Representative John Linthicum, a Democrat from Maryland who had advocated for “The Star Spangled Banner” for almost a decade, introduced a bill to make “The Star Spangled Banner” the official National Anthem. The Congressman also submitted a petition containing more than five million individual signatures, resolutions and letters from 150 organizations, and “letters and telegrams from 25 governors . . . asking that the bill be enacted into law.” The bill was approved by the House on April 21, 1930 and finally passed the Senate on March 3, 1931.

The United States Code is the official compilation and codification of general and permanent federal statutory law.

36 U.S. Code § 301 - National anthem

(a) Designation.—

The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.

(b) Conduct During Playing.—During a rendition of the national anthem—

(1) when the flag is displayed—

(A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note;

(B) members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform; and

(C) all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and

(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

A story of how our national anthem came to be. I was asked by someone to put a video together for this audio and upload it, so here it is. I was never expect...
