Join us for our FREE annual Animation Festival. At this event, we will teach you all about the art of animation, have games and activities throughout the entire campus, and showcase a variety of movies all day long!

We will be celebrating the work of Chuck Jones. This is our tribute to the legendary animator who brought to life some of the most beloved characters and stories in animation history.

A Musical Journey Through Time w/ Social Distance Band | January 24 in the Warehouse Theatre

Social Distance Band was born in the thick of it—right when the world went quiet, and all we had left was the music. Founders Tim Robertson and Jeremy Wilder had been putting in work for years, Tim holding it down with local bands for over 15 years and Jeremy bringing his own flavor. These two grew up in the church, learning to play like it was second nature, and when they came together, the music was something special.

Fast forward three years, and Social Distance Band has become a vibe all its own. From Motown to R&B, pop, country, and everything in between, they’ve taken their roots, their passion, and that soulful grit to bring people the sounds they need. This band is more than music; it’s a remedy, a celebration, a sound that sticks with you long after the show’s over.

A singer, composer and actor, Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers.

Whether touring as a ‘Duo’ or with his ‘Acoustic Group’ or his ‘Large Band,’ Lovett’s live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend’s deep talents, but also the diversity of his influences, making him one of the most compelling and captivating musicians in popular music.

Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lyle Lovett has evolved into one of music’s most vibrant and iconic performers. Among his many accolades, besides the four Grammy Awards, he was given the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award, and was named Texas State Musician.

His works, rich and eclectic, are some of the most beloved of any artist working today.

Not every musician has the opportunity to revisit and even potentially improve upon their biggest hits. But on the forthcoming TEN to 1 record, the award-winning band Lonestar — Dean Sams (keyboards, acoustic guitar, background vocals), Michael Britt (lead guitarist, background vocals ), Keech Rainwater (drums) and Drew Womack (lead vocals, guitar)—are taking a fresh look at all 10 of their chart-topping country songs.

This streak started in 1996 with the band’s second single, the rock-edged “No News,” and continued with the following year’s “Come Cryin’ to Me” and “Everything’s Changed.” The band’s quadruple-platinum 1999 album Lonely Grill spawned four No. 1 hits (including the beloved global smash “Amazed”) and established Lonestar as music’s preeminent pop-country band—a status they’d maintain through the 2000s and beyond.

Our Mission

The Academy Center of the Arts is Greater Lynchburg’s center for arts, culture, and community building. Our mission is to serve our community through arts and culture, and we believe that our programming is essential for a thriving community, as it can lead to improved grades for students, increased memory retention rates for seniors, and a decreased poverty rate.

Each year, the Academy engages tens of thousands of Central Virginians through stage events, arts education, facilities rentals, outreach, and galleries exhibits, which result in a significant economic impact on the Greater Lynchburg area.

Our campus includes the Historic Academy Theatre (524 Main St.), the Joy & Lynch Christian Warehouse Theatre (519 Commerce St.), and our Patricia Harrington Members’ Lounge and Gallery building, which also hosts our offices (600 Main St.).
