Congratulations, Allana!! HHS BOMM is so proud of you!
This past Saturday, eight DMS students and I traveled to Hidden Valley Middle School in Roanoke, VA for District VI All District Honor Band Auditions. Students had to learn and memorize nine major scales, memorize the chromatic scale (all the notes on their instrument), and play a demanding prepared piece. They also had to sight read a short piece of music. They were given thirty seconds to study the piece without playing. They then had to perform the piece without stopping. Our students had to compete with students from all over our large district. There were about 550 students in the auditions. I am happy to announce that the following students made honor band this year:
Grace Forshey - 1st Chair Flute in the Concert Band
Amya Coleman - 8th Chair Clarinet in the Concert Band
Allana Bolden - 18th Chair Clarinet in the Concert Band
Grant Manning - 4th Chair Alto Saxophone in the Concert Band
Lee Boogades - 6th Chair Alto Saxophone in the Concert Band
When you see these students in the hallway or in class, give them a pat on the back and a job well done! These students gave up their free time to come to the audition boot camp I do the week of auditions as well as their free time at home. I am also super proud of the three who auditioned and scored really well, but are alternates for the events.
