Our Annual Christmas Ball !!

Come one, come all, to our Christmas Ball !

We sill be skipping our 2nd hour West Coast Swing Class to provide more time for our regular dance party.

There will no doubt be lots of fantastic snacks (and maybe even Root Beer Floats!)

Dress as formal as you can (pull out all the stops!)

Reestablish contact with friends you haven't seen in a while.

In lieu of presents or gift exchanges etc. let's try something unique. Let's try to bless at least one fellow dancer with our words of appreciation, admiration, camaraderie or just simple friendship. Build one another up. If you have something good to say - Say It !! This could be that best Christmas gift you give this year! 😃

This week at Wylin's - Wednesday ! Not Thursday!

Although our formal ball with be the following week (the 30th) we do encourage y'all to wear fall colors to dance this Wednesday

Yes! we will be hosting dance on Wednesday the 22nd instead of our normal Thursday (because It's Thanksgiving!)

During our first hour (7 to 8PM) I will be introducing a new group dance "Mary's Wedding" to music by High Kings.
It will be easy to learn and lots of fun!

For our 8PM drop in class we will continue with the fundamentals of West Coast Swing.

This Thursday (the 16th) at Wylin's

Exciting news!

Due to our still not being able to fit in all the contra and group dances before the families with younger children have to leave for home
I have decided to try out a different schedule for our dance evenings.

So, at 7:00PM to 8:00 we will be doing our contra and group dances with some Waltz and Night Club Two Step dances interspersed between them.

Then, from 8:00PM to 9:00 we will officially open the evening and do our group photos followed by our drop in class.

Lastly, from 9:00PM to 10:00 we will feature our Swing, Lindy and West couple dances along with performance dances and swing line dances.

Please try to be on time at 7:00PM for our contra and group dance section so you don't miss any of the fun. 😃

And please do continue to reach out to like minded Christian families and individuals who will enjoy dancing with our fellowship.

Lindy Hop class continues starting at 7:00 PM

Our group dance for the evening will be Battle of New Orleans

Our line dance will be our Swing Line Dance Medley

We will be taking portraits for our Photo Wall so if you would like to join us all on the wall
be sure to dress for it and write your name on the portrait sign up sheet on the DJ table

We have all benefited from many great new young people who have recently been invited to our dance by some of our dancers.

LINDY HOP !

Yes! the dance you've all be asking for ! will be taught starting this Thursday the 5th of October, 2023.

We will be teaching you a style best described as Centrifugal Savoy.
It is basically Frankie Manning Savoy with a good bit of centrifugal energy thrown in to add to the fun.

Lindy Hop is one of the most fantastic of dances and it is also very retro in style (as in 1940s)
It is a lot of fun, very high energy, and a real art form as well.

But, like all of the more fantastic dances, it can be challenging to learn.

So that is why we are going to take it really slow and focus on the vital fundamentals of the dance.

Because until you master the fundamentals you won't be able to really enjoy the dance.

But once you've got the fundamentals down it can be loads of fun and beautiful team athletic art!

So brush up the soles of your dance shoes and see you at 7:00 PM for our normal opening of our dance evening and our orientation for the class.

For our talk I will be speaking about our unity in Christ as is presented in 1st Corinthians chapter 3.

Our Lindy Hop Class will follow.

Dance party with group dances 8:00 to 9:00 PM (and we hope to do STAND again as well so be excited and prepared)

Partner ballroom dance party with extra special Spotify music from 9:00 to 10:00 PM

Our performance dance of the evening will be The Footloose Line Dance.

Exciting News!

We will be teaching that most important of all social dances: East Coast Swing this Thursday the 23rd of February 2023 and this will be our dance of the month for the remainder of February and all of March.

The class will run from 7PM to 8PM with our normal dance party evening proceeding from there.

So so dress up for the event and be prepared to dance some Night Club Two Step that we have been teaching this month as well as some country line dances.

Exciting News!

Night Club Two Step is our Dance of the Month for January

This is a fun and relaxing country style waltz like dance that everyone should learn and enjoy. Be sure to arrive on time as our class will start at 7:00 PM

If you are just starting out in social dancing then this is an ideal dance to begin with as it is easy to learn and very rewarding.

If you are an experienced dancer then this is your opportunity to welcome our new people by helping them learn to dance and by making them feel at home among friends. (and you can really help your dance teacher this way too - and he needs all the help he can get)

Announcing:

Christmas Ball TWO !!

YES!

You read that correctly!
Due to some of our dancers not being able to attend our Ball last Thursday and due to many of our dancers just not being able to get enough of Christmas Balls I have decided that we need a rematch!

So polish up your ruby slippers and let's have a Ball ! And we can cellebrate New years too!

If the weather stays good The Ball will start at 7:00 PM so gear up for a fantastic evening of dancing!

Yes, dress nice for the event.

Please feel free to bring a few christmas decorations for the tree.

And by popular demand we will also be taking photos for our
Photo Wall so dress up for that as well.

Now, having said all that, if the roads by you or on your route to dance are not safe then do not take unnecessary risks and stay home and safe instead. Your well being is always more important than dance!

I recently asked our dancers if they would like to share how they discovered Wylin's Swing Euphorium and how it has affected their lives. I received several inspiring letters in response. The letter that follows is one of them:

"Last year, I was working a lot of shifts for my school's cafe at the Northwest Washington Fair. I looked at the schedule for the day and saw that a dance group was going to be performing that night. After my shift, I dragged my friend to the Banner Bank stage to come watch Wylin's Swing Euphorium with me. It was the first night of the Fair and very hot. There weren't many dancers that were able to make it, but what I saw made me immediately fall in love with the art of dancing. After they had finished, they were all gathered in a group off stage. I ventured over there to see if maybe I could join. They were immediately welcoming and a big part of the reason that I came the following week. Words can't express how this community has changed my life. I have made new, but more importantly real friends here. I've reconnected with some old ones. But most importantly, I've grown closer to God. Even though I go to a good Christian school, I was having trouble understanding it. The hardest thing for me at this school was the attitude of the people there. At Wylin's Swing Euphorium, the people have made me understand what it is to live out your faith. This place truly is one of the best communities. Thank you for creating such an amazing place.

(Out of humility the the dancer who shared this beautiful letter asked that their name not be included)
The part of this letter that touched me most deeply was:

"But most importantly, I've grown closer to God."

For all the friendship, art, connection and just shear fantastic fun that partner social dancing provides it is truly just an illustration of the even more beautiful reality of our connection with God. And that, I think, is why social dancing is such a powerful blessing. In a small way it feels like what one experiences when one is exalting and worshiping God.

Truly, we want our young people to enjoy the incredible blessing of social dance and all the amazing benefits and friendship it brings into their lives, but what we want even more for them is that they grow closer to God. That is, by far, a more powerful blessing than all the other benefits of social dance combined.

When we started Wylin's Swing Euphorium almost eight years ago we never imagined that God would bless our dance kids and us with such a privilege as to be used by Him to draw our precious young people to Himself. I never cease to be amazed at His love and grace to us and to these outstanding young people whom we have grown to love so much.

This project continues until the end of the year so please feel free to share your story with us. Here is the original announcement:
