Sold out means kitchen time. Most people would think this is work. But for us anytime we are in the kitchen we are laughing and enjoying each others cooking styles. We often talk about our grandmothers or other family members we either learned something from or just simply mentioning what they cook good. Got me thinking about my future mother in law Paula. She’s a legend in her home town with a cast iron pot. Her fried chicken is famous and rumor has it her fried chicken has been used as currency to pay for taxes being done. Now that’s some good fried chicken. So that got us going in another direction. Who all would make a pass by.
I can remember my mawmaw Eva cooking in her little shack in Plaquemine,La for Dr’s, Lawyers(heck one of them was the lieutenant Governor in Louisiana. Ever Monday right around noon when that old whistle would blow 3 or 4 cars would pull up and you hear one gentleman say Miss Eva what ya got in dat pot. My mawmaw would say” every Monday Red Beans & Rice, cornbread, mustards and….. the only thing that would change would be what went with it. Fried pork chops, fried pig tails, or just sausage.
When finish eating they always got a cup of black community dark roast coffee and fried dough with powered sugar. As they would leave they would leave $20 or so for my grandmother. Every Christmas these same buisness men would drop of Christmas presents to her, which she usually gave a way to people who she thought needed it more. That is why we enjoy cooking to serve others and to go back in time and remember our loved ones that taught us the love of cooking.
Pictured below one of her little shacks. #neverforgetwhereucomefrom.
