‘Bioluminescence,’ an excerpt from the evening length work “A Onda.”
_________

In ‘Bioluminescence,’ a site specific and immersive work, audience members moved through the performance space as a reflection of water passing through the watervascular systems in starfish limbs. Viewers interfaced with a life-size projection of an underwater film, as well as visual and auditory communication from the performers.
__________

With the Earth as landscape and soundscape, art made in the container of Embodied Arts (co)LAB seeks to reflect a movement towards artistic performance that viscerally engages both mover and viewer, inviting all into relationship with their environment.

Digging in the crates -

Chris prefers vinyl and analogue for Embodied Arts sound frequencies. Analogue recording captures the full soundscape, and we use analogue systems at Embodied Arts as an attempt to be in closer relationship to the sounds of the Earth without modification.
__________

In workshop immersions at Embodied Arts (co)LAB, you will use your body as a conduit for Earth's sounds, training your listening awareness to become a vessel for the surrounding frequencies.

I am a hybrid movement heArtist dedicated to freedom and sanctuary of the body/mind/Spirit through radical care in self love, empathy, healing, and reclamation as a wombyn. Collaboratively with my husband, DJ Chris Cockroft, I am founder of Embodied Arts (co)LAB, an artist residency and movement practice in Lyons, CO. We integrate and investigate the relationship of movement with the frequencies of sound, nature, and water. Our restorative practices of deep inner listening balance and inform - rigor, play, and collaborative, cross-disciplinary creation and exploration. Places I've shared my work at include: Cuerpos en Tránsito Festival Tijuana, Brockus Space Los Angeles, Highways Performance Space Santa Monica, Quinzena de Dança Almada Festival Portugal, and Zion Dance Project's Winter and Summer Series Dallas, TX. For six years I performed in Los Angeles with companies and artists such as: The Iris Company, Intersect Dance Theatre, Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre, Mya and Daft Punk, and recently with Denver-based Chadash Dance.

I teach with a human-first approach to all bodies desiring to move, including dancers, Spanish-English bilingual communities and children with disabilities. I experienced my M.F.A. in Dance at CU Boulder, and am a GYROKINESIS® Trainer/GYROTONIC® apprentice. My movement is informed by exploration in water and earth, Experimental Contemporary, Gaga, Floorwork, Contact Improvisation, Single Point Trapeze, Ballet, House, Breaking, and Popping-with mad respect for Hip Hop culture. My research interests and play include anatomy and physiology of starfish, sacred movement, ecowomxnism, my cat- Peetree, procrastination, South Park, and multimedia performance in non-traditional spaces. I am invested in non-virtual being as resistance to the endangerment of ephemeral, kinesthetic and human to human embodied experiences, for they are sacred, vital, and irreplaceable. Thank you to my teachers for passing down your movement gifts, and to family, ancestors, earth, and Creator for schooling me.

GYROKINESIS® and GYROTONIC® is a registered trademark of GYROTONIC® Sales Corp and is used with their permission.

Meet the founders of Embodied Arts (co)LAB - DJ Chris Cockroft

______________________________

I have been a DJ since the ripe old age of 13. My first spot in a nightclub was in Downtown Dallas at age 15. By selling custom mixtapes and DJ’ing local parties from birthdays and school dances to weddings, I found a way to support my love of music! Beginning at age 18, I worked for the largest Mobile DJ Company in Houston.

__________

In 1997, I moved to Colorado, and worked as the Lead Sales Manager and Head DJ for a mobile company located in Denver. After 6 1/2 years in the Mobile Scene, I decided to go back to my roots in the Club Scene. I got a residency three nights a week in Denver and Boulder for 2 ½ years. When I created Tip Top Music Entertainment Mobile DJ service in 2004, I sought to incorporate the best of what I had experienced up to that point. I wanted diversity, creativity, and something unusually dynamic & personable. So, one show at a time, I looked to set standards way above anything previously done in the industry. One thing that I felt was always missing was working with youth and participating in community building. During this first year at Tip Top, I decided to create Turntables for Teens; a Youth Mentoring Program involving the arts of DJ-ing, Breakdancing, Mural Creation, and Creative Writing.

__________

Having done Sound Design for Times Square New Year’s Eve, Lance Armstrong’s comeback race in Las Vegas, and Audio Tech at Red Rocks Amphitheater, I am most inspired to be exploring sound frequency healing with my wife - Kristen Holleyman, at our artist residency program, Embodied Arts (co)LAB.

Come spread the mossy tentacles of your feet, awaken and lift the eyes of your skin to the sky. As the rivers of our veins flow effortlessly, we honor the ocean in our tears, the cosmos in our eyes, and tumble with the shells of our bones. We are moved by the rocks, as the feathers of our hair remember their flight through the winds. We are the medicine.

Peel back and pivot from the old beliefs, anchor in your true self, and transition towards expansive transformation. Let the h(ear)t be your guide. Come Recalibrate, Relearn, Remember and Renew.
