Today, as many of you know- is the anniversary of what would be Mom's last show. She joined several other members of the Grand Ole Opry in Kansas City, Kansas for a benefit concert to help out the family of a DJ by the name of "Cactus" Jack Call who had passed away in an automobile accident about a month earlier. Entertainers for the benefit included George Jones, Dottie West, Billy Walker, Wilma Lee & Stony Cooper, George Riddle and a host of others. You may notice Roy Acuff's name is printed on that mornings newspaper advertisement, however Mr. Acuff was unable to make the performance and had to cancel just prior to the benefit.

A few photo's of Mom from that show have surfaced over the years, this one we've included is one of the final pictures captured of her that night. It was taken by Francis Nunez- this is actually the same photo twice, however one is enlarged a little to show everyone a few more of the details of her on stage. After each show, Dottie West and Mom joined some of the other entertainers near the stage and signed autographs for all the fans who lined up after the concert.

Due to weather conditions in the area- Randy Hughes, Cowboy Copas, Hawkshaw Hawkins and Mom would not be able to fly back towards Nashville until two days later....
