To even be nominated, if you only knew.....

I was spit out and thrown away so many times in the restaurant industry over the course of 17 years before I took the business into my own hands. I was always tagged the reliable, hardworking, talented GIRL/MOM....."you'll never make it as far as a man" "why do you look like a bitch when you focus" "maybe if you got rid of your son, you could get further" "your family comes second always"....

Then the pandemic hit, everything stopped, everything unknown, everything taken away.....except my will to make a better life for me and my child and to break the stigma that you have to be an absent parent to succeed in this business.

That's when Shay la Vie started and I moved away from all we knew to start a new life in an unknown town in Alabama.

4 years later, as my family comes from both coasts to join me in celebrating my son's 10th birthday, I got the message.....to say I felt validated in my decision is the understatement of the year, tears of pure joy flowing. It's my food, my brand, my face, there is no hiding behind or blaming anyone else if something goes wrong. Apparently, something went very right and I want to thank every single person and client who keeps me going and makes it happen.
