An update from Alabama Law Enforcement Agency

10 AM UPDATE ROAD CONDITIONS AND CLOSURES:

Jefferson County – Roadways are covered with ice and snow, but conditions continue to deteriorate.

St. Clair County – Roadways are covered with ice and snow. ALEA has received widespread reports of icy roads and stranded motorists due to icy conditions on all lanes of Interstate 20, near the 153 mile marker to the 156 mile marker. The roadway will be blocked and impassible. Please avoid travelling in this area if possible and seek alternate routes.

Shelby County - Roadways are covered with ice and snow. The southbound lanes of Interstate 65 at approximately the 237 mile marker will be blocked and impassible.

COLBERT COUNTY – All state and federal roads covered in snow/ice mixture and are considered slick and impassable. US 43 South bound side is impassable. County Line Road is impassable. AL 20 has one lane that is passable on both East bound and West bound sides but still has some slick spots.

FRANKLIN COUNTY - All state and federal roads covered in snow/ice mixture and are considered slick and impassable.

LAUDERDALE COUNTY – All state and federal roads covered in snow/ice mixture and are considered slick and impassable. ALDOT has used snow grader on AL 20 but is still slick.

LAWRENCE COUNTY – All state and federal roads covered in snow/ice mixture and are considered slick and impassable.

FAYETTE COUNTY – All state and federal roads covered in snow/ice mixture and are considered slick and impassable.

LAMAR COUNTY – All state and federal roads covered in snow/ice mixture and are considered slick and impassable.

MARION COUNTY – All state and federal roads covered in snow/ice mixture and are considered slick and impassable. I22 has multiple CMV’s and passenger cars stuck in median or on the shoulder of the roadway.

WALKER COUNTY – All state and federal roads covered in snow/ice mixture and are considered slick and impassable. I22 has multiple CMV’s and passenger cars stuck in median or on the shoulder of the roadway.

WINSTON COUNTY – All state and federal roads covered in snow/ice mixture and are considered slick and impassable.

Limestone County – All roads are covered with snow and are deemed impassable.

Morgan County – All roads are covered with snow and are deemed impassable.

Cullman County – All roads are covered with snow and are deemed impassable.

Blount County – All roads are covered with snow and ice and are deemed impassable.

Madison County – All roads are covered with snow and are deemed impassable.

Jackson County – All roads are covered with snow and are deemed impassable.

Marshall County – All roads are covered in snow and are deemed impassable.

Etowah County – All roads are covered in snow and are becoming impassable.

Dekalb County – All roads are covered in snow and are deemed impassable.

Cherokee County - All roads are covered in snow and are deemed impassable.

Calhoun County – Per Calhoun County EMA all city roadways in the County are closed due to ice and snow on the roadways. Jacksonville City Roads are impassable. Alabama 77 to Alabama 144 from Etowah County Line is iced over. Calhoun County Roads are also covered with snow and ice.

Clay County - Roadways are covered with ice and snow.

Cleburne County – Roadways are covered with ice and snow.

Randolph County – Roadways are covered with ice and snow. U.S. 431 is blocked in both directions due to icy road conditions and impassible at this time.

Talladega County – Childersburg City has closed all city roads. U.S. 280 near Merkel Mtn. is near impassible per Talladega County.

🔵Important Travel Advisory🔵

Due to worsening road conditions throughout the county, the Madison County Sheriff's Office is issuing a travel advisory to prioritize public safety. As of this morning, most bridges in the area are coated in ice, creating a significant hazard for motorists. Many roadways across the county are currently unsafe for travel. In light of this situation, we strongly advise against venturing onto the roads today. The dangers associated with driving on icy bridges are considerable, and we urge residents to exercise extreme caution and avoid any unnecessary travel.

Recommendations:

✅Remain at home and avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary.
✅Refrain from using bridges until further notice.
✅Plan alternative routes or modes of transportation if possible.
✅Monitor local news and weather reports for updates on road conditions.
