When watering houseplants during hot weather, here are some tips to keep them healthy especially the ones by hot sunny windows:

1. Check soil moisture: Before watering, check the soil moisture by inserting your finger about an inch deep into the soil. Water only if the top inch is dry.

2. Adjust watering frequency: Houseplants may require more frequent watering in hot weather due to increased evaporation. Monitor their soil regularly and adjust the watering schedule accordingly.

3. Water in the morning or evening: Similar to outdoor plants, water your houseplants in the cooler parts of the day to reduce water loss from evaporation.

4. Use room-temperature water: Avoid using very cold water, as it can shock the plants. Let the water sit at room temperature before watering.

5. Water at the base: Direct the water at the base of the plant, avoiding wetting the leaves, which can lead to fungal issues.

6. Consider humidity: If the air in your home becomes dry due to hot weather, consider increasing humidity levels around your houseplants. You can mist them or place a tray with water and pebbles nearby.

7. Group plants together: Grouping plants together can create a microenvironment with higher humidity, which can benefit the plants during hot and dry periods.

8. Use a saucer or tray: Place a saucer or tray under the plant's pot to catch excess water. This prevents the plant from sitting in standing water, which can lead to root rot.

9. Use a self-watering system: Consider using self-watering systems, like watering spikes or self-watering pots, to ensure a more consistent water supply for your houseplants.
