This is Mr and Mrs Carson Bridges. Carson’s precious wife is Mariah Faith Bridges and their one month old baby girl is Hanna. Three precious and beautiful children of God. It was a sweet sweet time as they prayed for Jesus to join them in a marriage walk of faith. Trust me, they will raise this wonderful child to know Jesus at an early age. Hanna gave. the “V”for Victory sign just as I took her picture.

To the many couples we had the honor of marrying in 2024 we send this thought for your first Christmas together in HOLY MATRIMONY:

He goes from heart to heart, asking if he might enter. Every so often, he’s welcomed. Someone throws open the door of his or her heart and invites Him to stay. And to that person Jesus gives this great promise: “In my Father’s house are many rooms” (John 14:2). We make room for him in our hearts, and Jesus makes room for us in his. This Christmas, will He be in your home?

Jared and Haylee. A sweet loving couple who brightened our home. Jared is a teacher at Magnolia High School. His love is sports casting and he has the voice for it. Haylee is a sweet soul who will help and encourage him as his career soars. I encourage all my grooms to write their own anniversary and birthday cards. It’s so much deeper than a Hallmark card. Jared has written his first and is going to let me read it soon. Maybe he will even allow me to share his writing and loving talent with you. Hope so. God bless this happy family.

Congratulations Luke and his pretty wife Amanda. Luke is a carpenter par excellence and Amanda owns a home care medical provider company in Louisiana. Like so many other couples who have taken vows at Charel Venue, they traveled here from Springhill. I predict a long and happy married life for these sweet people.

A diving accident left Joni Eareckson paralyzed. Her handicap didn’t keep her from marrying Ken Tada, but it almost kept her from the joy of the wedding. While waiting to go down the aisle, she discovered across her beautiful wedding dress a big, black grease mark courtesy of her chair. The bouquet of daisies on her lap slid off center, her paralyzed hands unable to rearrange them. She felt far from a picture-perfect bride.

But as she looked down the aisle, she saw her groom. She says, “Grease stains? Flowers out of place? Who cares! The love in Ken’s eyes washed it all away. That’s what changed me.” She forgot about herself. Everything changes when you look at your groom! Max Lucado

This photo was taken at the home of my parents in League City, Texas November 8, 1986. Later that evening we stood before Baptist minister Cubie Phillips in the dining room of that loving home to take our vows. My dad was in his final days of life and could not leave the house so we took our wedding to him and mother. From the moment I introduced them to Charolette they embraced her and supported our marriage strongly, so it was our honor to be with dad as well as mom. What wonderful, godly parents we both had. So today we celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary, still overwhelmed by the amount of love in that small home as we vowed before our God to love each other as long as we both shall live. And today, November 8, 2024 we continue on our love journey to Heaven in the strongest bond of commitment and love there could ever be. We have asked God to keep us together even in Heaven. Thank you Heavenly Father, for the miracle that came to us in 1986. Help us to daily show our appreciation to you and our Lord Jesus Christ for the gift of these years living and loving and knowing that YOU are in our marriage. The song says; “ Oh the glory, of your presence; we your children, give you reverence. Come and rise from your rest and be blessed with our praise as your glory now fills this place.” That place is our one heart. Great things He has done. We wish the same to our married friends. There is no better life.

This is the heart and soul of healthy and long lasting marriage. Expect to be blessed.

This Camellia is going crazy! It alone has more smile encouraging blooms than any other in our yard. The blooms are all one little plant. We have had many over the years that are probably more than 50 years old. I am appreciative to whomever planted them. I am confident it was Ora Eugenia McKay Crumpler. I think about that as I plant long living specimens like the fig trees three years ago. I will probably never taste a single fig, but someone will. And I hope they enjoy the property. We have done our best to make sure it will still be around for generations to come. But back to this ONE Camellia. The last two years of freezes appeared to take its will to live, and it became scrawny. It was an eyesore. It went a year without a single leaf. Its branches would snap off, indicating life had left. I sawed it off as low as my chainsaw would allow. Then came the morning. I didn’t notice until a few weeks ago because a three foot brick fence hid it as I backed out the car each day. One bright and full red flower climbed into sight. I stopped the car in amazement and walked around the wall into the side garden. There was more coming out of the soil, not the little stump I had left. The photos tell it best. Good roots don’t always quit. Sometimes they just need a rest. It’s always about the roots. The future is so dependent on the roots. Now I understand how I developed my character; somewhat anyway. Mom and Dad were the premium variety and this old apple didn’t fall far from the tree, if I do say so myself. I am so much of them and it makes me proud. I owe them much, but I particularly thank them for telling me about Jesus and getting me to church. When dad had to work Sundays Mom would put me on a city bus to First Baptist in Galveston. And there the seed grew for many years. Charolette and I are the same in our walk as believers and we discuss our faith-walk often, and pray together at every meal holding hands. I share scripture with her and pray over her when she has bad days. It’s real. It was in our roots. Her’s developed at home with BF and Viola, and, at FBC Knox City, Texas. We have had a bad winter or two but we have always come back better but the best is now. I challenge everyone to think about roots. And remember, even a plant that began badly can be changed if you yourself become a good gardener. I am still working on me. No matter how good the roots, we all have had to be pruned at times. I am thankful for the past and my prunings.

Such a beautiful marriage license with bells, roses, and much artwork in colors of faded pink and green. He was Clarence Elmo Poole. She was Amy Elizebeth Ruby. They were married in 1918 at a Methodist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. They are buried in the cemetery of that same Methodist church; he in 1952, she in 1992 at age 96. I am sure they were very happy. I do not know if we are related. Charolette found the marriage license at an estate sale. We are so happy to see it hanging in our home as a testament to their Christian life, marriage, and resting place together. Kind of romantic I would say.

There is no relationship as close as a married man and woman deeply in love; tested by time. They are not the same blood, but their heart is indivisible. Give your spouse a flower in this spirit. Choose your own words. Here is a meaningful example:

“These flowers are a token that I remain to thee wed, and pledge my love forever, in this life, and the one to come.”

Sunday morning in Murfreesboro, Arkansas with David and Rachel Uth. David (Dr. Uth) is Senior Pastor at First Baptist Orlando,an 18000 member Southern Baptist Church. Pastor David moved to Orlando about 20 years ago from being Pastor at First Baptist West Monroe, better known as First West. Charolette and I were members at First West during his 10 years there. He pastored at Immanuel Baptist in El Dorado First Baptist in Camden, and Mt Moriah Baptist Murfreesboro. I, along with Patrick Williams and John Rea of Monroe, flew from Monroe to be with him in Orlando as he accepted the call to pastor that great church.

David was a student at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia 48 years ago when he was asked by his Professor to preach one Sunday at Mt. Moriah, a church with about 25 members in attendance each week. He was asked to come back the next Sunday to help out again, at which time he was asked to return a third week for a vote on becoming their new pastor, which he was not at all expecting. He left Mt Moriah some time later with Rachel, to attend seminary at Southwest Baptist Theological University in Ft. Worth. He pastored in a Ft. Worth church while getting his PHD in New Testament Studies.

From a church of 25 to an ever-growing church of 18000 with 28 ministers on staff is almost unbelievable. But that's just what David and Rachel accomplished coming out of a small church in Arkansas. Joshua Uth, Andrew Michael Uth, and Hannah Leigh Uth all live in Orlando as it faces Hurricane Milton. Please pray for the Uth family and First Baptist Orlando. After 48 years of success after success in working for The Lord I can assure you that David and Rachel can handle a hurricane, but let's just pray anyway. God Bless and protect the Uth family!

Many years ago Charolette attended an estate sale and found this cross. She immediately fell in love with it. I have an area upstairs where I go to study and pray uninterrupted, and she pictured it hanging there. But it turned out that I had to be away from home for over ten years career wise so it never went up on a wall. It went with me. There was a large oval framed picture where you see the cross today. I was about to begin a wedding a month ago when the bride thought how special it would be if a cross was hanging there for her wedding. In about five minutes she got her wish. And it will remain there as long as God allows us to live in this wonderful home. It is my favorite object in the house. You see, the lady who owned it wouldn’t sell it. She told Charolette, “ I will give it to you free if you will promise to keep it forever”. Charolette Cornett Pool made that promise. Promise or no promise we would never have sold it anyway. It’s worth too much. Zoom in and look at those nails close up. They are about a foot in length. An old chorus comes to mind; “He paid a debt he did not owe. I owed a debt I could not pay.” It means so much.
