Not often do we get to sit and enjoy the tables we design. We don’t always get to bask in the glow of candlelight and chat with kindred souls. People that love and care about us and share in our thoughts.

Today, we are grateful to get to do just that.
We are grateful for our friends, our colleagues, and most importantly our couples.
We are grateful that we have so many people in our life that trust us.

To celebrate their joy, to design beautiful environments for the most special times in their life, and to squeeze them in a warm embrace when everything is more than they could have ever dreamed.

I can’t wait for the next year of love, celebration and warm embraces.

So many things have happened in the past 365 days.
This week we celebrated one year of creating an inclusive, nurturing, and genuine planning business.

When we created One Bell Designs, we did so with a major purpose.. to create spaces for our couples that felt safe, a home.

Obviously we want to create this feeling for all our couples but especially for the LGBTQIA+ couples that love fiercely and sometimes have to fight ferociously for their love.

So when I met Carla about a year ago, we also had a conversation about how we can create an easily accessible group or list of people that are openly q***r and can give couples a peace of mind on the days that deserve nothing less than unbridled joy and celebration.

So here’s the beginning of The Gay Agenda .. a group of LGBTQIA+ people that want community and to have a safe home to have conversations, connect with people that have all different skills, and can help harbor a space; For joy, celebration, love, and everything that comes along with it.

So happy anniversary to us! We got to celebrate with people that make us feel most like us and we can’t wait to see who else would like to join us in the future!

The weekend of Amaryllis & Charlie was a magical one. It was a joy and a pleasure to help them put their big day together and moments like this make it feel so special.

I started in the wedding biz as a dress consultant. I am the daughter of a seamstress and know my way around a bustle (or a safety pin if the bustle doesn’t make it to the dance floor). Helping people feel beautiful in their bodies on such a special day is a gift.

Why is it important that I’m part of the LGBTQIA+ community?

Survival skills.

My communication style is factual, sometimes blunt, but always educational or productive.

This comes from years of carefully crafted responses, assessing the conversation for risk, minimizing myself as a target, and overall ensuring mine and my family’s safety.

At the end of the day, ignorance ends with education and I think the power of being informed is unparalleled.

As your planner, it’s my turn to take whatever reins you’d like to hand me and talk to you about all the information. I know a lot about the wedding world, that’s probably why you hired me! But I want to share with you so you don’t feel like I’m blindly leading you.

These conversations create trust and build a foundation for our planning relationship. That trust means you know I have your back, especially when you’re not a part of the conversation.

You can trust me to ask questions, assess the risk based on many factors, and recommend my professional opinion to bring you the best day for you and your partner.

A lightbulb moment, a spark, a brain storm.. You can call it many things but the surge of inspiration when I talk to my couples about their design process. I’m in the throes of putting together 3 separate designs right now and my heart could not be more full. There is a range from warm candlelit winter to enchanted forest vibes so no one should be surprised if I accidentally send an email at 3am because I’m LITERALLY dreaming about these weddings and can’t contain my ideas in my subconscious.

Happy Pride .. well I would be remiss to say that it’s all happy with our community fearing for our safety more than ever. I was going to post because we ARE proud to be here. I was going to post because we’re q***r, we’re supposed to be the example! We’re supposed to take up space. And we are. But sometimes in today’s world that can be scary.

That’s why it’s important not only this month but anytime you can; show us you care, however you can. Just a phone call and someone to listen, goes a long way.

And while you’re on the phone, feel free to call the politicians supporting anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation and tell them how you feel.

I know a little about a lot.

My mom has beautiful gardens and taught me about flowers my whole childhood. I’ve painted all through my formative years and have no problem getting my hands dirty. I know a cheeky trick to find the best n**e lipstick shade for yourself. I love to bake and have made wedding cakes for friends and family.

But that doesn’t mean that I know everything… I’m a planner not a “knower”.
So what does that mean?

That means I try to apply a very important philosophy that I have in my every day life to the wedding world… Ask the person that knows.

Like I would ask someone what their personal experience is, I ask wedding vendors, what their professional opinion is.

How long should I plan for dinner service?
Ask the caterer/venue coordinator.

When is the ideal time before sunset to get good golden hour photos?
Ask the photographer or videographer.

Can the cake stay out all night or does it need to be refrigerated?
Ask the baker.

I think the most important thing about my job is working with vendors to create a team that can best serve you. I can plan all day, for months leading up to your celebration, but those professionals are going to make it all come together.

What is a styled shoot? And who makes it happen?

A styled shoot is a collaboration of vendors that are looking to create and inspire design!

This opportunity gives us as wedding creatives time to put together a design that we haven’t seen yet, but want to show our couples what options they might have.

Designing a wedding is daunting! Where do you start? What colors do you like? Is there a flower that looks like our love? Do you want to have a lounge for your guests that might not be breaking it down on the dance floor all night?

It’s ok that some of those answers are “I HAVE NO IDEA”.

Stay tuned this year for MANY ideas while we put together a design look book for you.
