CSA subscriptions are officially open. Here is the link! https://thelittleflowerhouse23.square.site/

Here's a reminder how it works.

One wrapped bouquet (no vase) to be picked up weekly on Tuesdays at a TBD location and time, or Saturdays at BisMarket. This subscription will start roughly at the end of July and go through early September. You are guaranteed either 3 bouquets (every other week pickup) or 6 bouquets (weekly pickup). *No refunds. The only exception to the refund policy is if crop production is affected by nature (storms, etc.). Subscriptions must be picked up on the predetermined date and time by you or your approved pickup person (will not be able to accommodate switching weeks/dates). If you do not pickup, your bouquet will be donated. After purchase, please email your contact information (name, phone number, and email address) to [email protected]. Feel free to reach out with questions!

Fresh flowers is an excellent gift to give YOURSELF! Why should you purchase a flower subscription for yourself?

1. Treat yo self. Seriously, you deserve it. Flowers add beauty, life, and color to your favorite spaces.

2. Increase creativity. Check out this study (https://gpnmag.com/news/texas-am-study-shows-flowers-increase-workplace-creativity/) by Texas A&M, where they found flowers and plants in a workspace increased creativity.

3. Boost compassion and reduce stress and anxiety. Harvard Medical School said it guys, I'm just repeating it!

4. Reduce stress-induced pain. Here's another neat study about the effects of flowers on patients recovering from surgery (https://journals.ashs.org/horttech/view/journals/horttech/18/4/article-p563.xml).

5. Celebrate yourself! When you earned yourself a promotion, hit a goal, or simply made it through another week, celebrate yourself with something that will be a visual reminder of how great you are.

6. Bringing fresh scents and a beautiful centerpiece to your home. Nothing makes your house feel complete and clean like a lit candle and fresh flowers!

Why does a flower subscription make a great gift?

Have you ever sent or given someone flowers? If you have, you know the smile and the look that come along with it. Every time I deliver flowers being sent to someone as a gift, I love seeing the pure joy on the person's face who receives them. Every time that person walks by their bouquet in their space, they will smile, think of you, and know they are loved.

When you buy flowers from a big box store, do you know who grew those flowers? A big benefit of buying local is getting to know where your flowers come from, how they are grown, and WHO is growing them. Here's some quick facts about me, Jess, your local flower farmer!

1. I'm born and raised in Mandan, and I've never lived on a farm! A love for flowers and gardening has been passed down in my family for generations. One of my favorite traditions is a yearly plant shopping day with my sister and mom.

2. I grow most of my flowers on land at Stoll Farms and Baldwin Greenhouse & Nursery. I am an intern with . I get to grow in designated plots and receive support and education through the program. I am so grateful! If you visit the greenhouse, take a look at my plots (but please don't walk on them šŸ˜…).

3. I am a licensed veterinary technologist, and I worked in veterinary medicine for 10 years. Two years ago, I left the field and now work in an office. I love the peace and quiet after many years in the whirlwind of veterinary medicine. I'm not really sure how I added flowers as a second summer job, but here we are!

4. I have a super awesome husband who is so supportive. He builds the flower flights, helps me pack the car for market (because he's way more efficient at fitting everything!), and covers kid duty (we have 3 kiddos) when I'm busy with flowers. We are a great team šŸ©µ

5. I love getting to know all of you at market. My favorite moments are when someone shares their favorites, tells me how much they love a certain scent, or share what a specific variety means to them. Flowers are connection. I love hearing about your memories and how flowers keep you connected to loved ones!

It's CSA week, so let's talk a bit more about the benefits of supporting a local farm.

1. Supporting local. This strengthens our local economy and helps someone who lives and works in your community.

2. Trusted product. You are getting a crop that you could watch grow if you wanted to (go visit the greenhouse, you won't be able to miss my plots!). You can get to know your farmer personally šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø and ask all the details on how your flowers were grown. You have the peace of mind that your flowers were grown with very little chemicals, right here in your community, with environmental impact in mind!

3. FRESH!!!! When you buy local flowers, your crop is picked and could get into your hands within 24-48 hours. Did you know 90% of fresh flowers in the US are imported from Latin America? These flowers have a long way to travel, which means shorter vase life. Travel can also be hard on certain varieties, meaning lower quality. There is also no way to know growing practices, chemical usage, fair labor, etc. with imported blooms.

šŸ“šŸ“šŸ“Exciting Announcement!šŸ“šŸ“šŸ“ It's CSA week, and I've decided to offer one this season! CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. A CSA is basically a subscription to a crop that you pay for at the beginning or before the growing season starts. This is a way for customers to ensure access to local, affordable crops in a way that also ensures the farm is able to make good planning decisions and purchases for the year to come. Here is the link to the website to purchase šŸ™‚https://thelittleflowerhouse23.square.site/

Mocha Mousse

My feelings on this color when it comes to flowers? Definitely not my favorite. Now you tell meā€¦.should I take this color trend into consideration when I pick seeds and plugs for next year? How are we feeling about more browns, neutrals, and a more subdued color pallet?

We did some end of the year cleanup and dug dahlia tubers today. What a gorgeous fall weā€™ve had! Thank you to Mary and Jared at Stoll Farms and Baldwin Greenhouse & Nursery for teaching me the ropes on the tractors, it makes hauling dead plants go much quicker!

You know what they say, if you donā€™t like the weather, just give it a day! The weather this spring/summer/fall has made flower farming interesting this season to say the least! Between colder weather coming and an unexpected surgery, my 2024 season for locally grown flowers is officially closed. Thank you to every single person who chose to support a local grower this season, I appreciate you more than I could ever say! Now itā€™s time for planting tulips šŸŒ· tucking in beds with organic material šŸ‚ and avoiding the urge to cut plants down and pull everything up (letā€™s protect that soil from erosion!). Enjoy this last bouquet!

Iā€™m thankful for an amazing year two. Iā€™m very grateful to Jared and Mary with Stoll Farms and Baldwin Greenhouse & Nursery, and Ann, Desiree, and Beth with Strengthen ND. What a gift it has been to have some legitimate growing space, education, and resources šŸ©µ
