When you buy flowers from a big box store, do you know who grew those flowers? A big benefit of buying local is getting to know where your flowers come from, how they are grown, and WHO is growing them. Here's some quick facts about me, Jess, your local flower farmer!
1. I'm born and raised in Mandan, and I've never lived on a farm! A love for flowers and gardening has been passed down in my family for generations. One of my favorite traditions is a yearly plant shopping day with my sister and mom.
2. I grow most of my flowers on land at Stoll Farms and Baldwin Greenhouse & Nursery. I am an intern with . I get to grow in designated plots and receive support and education through the program. I am so grateful! If you visit the greenhouse, take a look at my plots (but please don't walk on them 😅).
3. I am a licensed veterinary technologist, and I worked in veterinary medicine for 10 years. Two years ago, I left the field and now work in an office. I love the peace and quiet after many years in the whirlwind of veterinary medicine. I'm not really sure how I added flowers as a second summer job, but here we are!
4. I have a super awesome husband who is so supportive. He builds the flower flights, helps me pack the car for market (because he's way more efficient at fitting everything!), and covers kid duty (we have 3 kiddos) when I'm busy with flowers. We are a great team 🩵
5. I love getting to know all of you at market. My favorite moments are when someone shares their favorites, tells me how much they love a certain scent, or share what a specific variety means to them. Flowers are connection. I love hearing about your memories and how flowers keep you connected to loved ones!
