MORE ABOUT PRAIRIEWOOD
Located just a mile west of the bustling college town of Manhattan, Kansas, Prairiewood is a private prairie preserve that offers a variety of distinctive lodging and event space nestled among the stunning Flint Hills. Encompassing 600 acres of tallgrass prairie, Prairiewood's Preserve is home to a beautiful stretch of Wildcat Creek, and has over 5 miles of walking and hiking trails that wind through spring-fed, wooded ravines and climb to sweeping ridge-top vistas.

Prairiewood's lodging facilities include three exquisitely appointed guest houses - the RetreatHouse, StoneHouse, and Kingfisher Cottage - that are available privately to one guest-group at a time. Idyllic for families or larger groups, all offer abundant amenities and access to our miles of walking trails and waterways. Additionally, popular for romantic getaways, our HomePlace offers individual luxury suites available nightly. A repurposed equestrian barn, the Blue Sage Barn is our dynamic event space, hosting inspired weddings, receptions, reunions, meetings, and special occasions - and is also home to our Blue Sage Gallery.

Prairiewood is a family-owned operation, and part of our Brushpoint family of distinctive destination properties - which also includes Sunset Cottage Guest House, NorthLight Lodging, and Union Hall. We aspire to create and share welcoming spaces - offered with unparalleled friendliness and meticulous attention to detail - that foster inspiration, rest, connection, and wonder for every guest we host. The rut (deer mating season) is over, and these bucks appear to have set aside their differences. Come October, they’ll be less cooperative with one another as they compete for does.

PRAIRIE GREETINGS! As 2024 comes to a close, we are grateful for each of you who has lodged or hosted an event with us. We are also delighted to share that over 1000 people experienced our trails and public events this year! Prairiewood was home to a weekly summer camp for kids, the Scheherazade Music Festival (with a special bug day and opera for kids!), monthly live music, and is now opening its trails to the public twice a week. Prairiewood has preserved over 600 acres of flint hills just west of Manhattan, providing refuge to wildlife and visitors alike. We are also enormously grateful for all of those who have generously donated in our recent campaign to help save additional prairie adjacent to Prairiewood's preserve!

Our deep mission of preservation of the tallgrass prairie – and the sharing of it in experiential ways that inspire, elevate, heal, and enrich lives – is expressed daily in our operational business. But in order to more fully realize and sustain our mission, our strategic partnership with the Prairiewood Connect Foundation is critical and greatly appreciated.

As you end this year – or to begin your 2025 with gratitude – might you consider a donation to Prairiewood Connect to allow us to more fully live out our mission?

As temperatures drop, turkey flocks tend to grow in size. Solo toms like this one are rare (they usually travel in, yes, posses), and in this case might indicate a problem, but he has been spotted all along the Wildcat Creek corridor over the past couple of weeks.
