Blue Heron Fishing
The spring fed wooded ravines of Prairiewood’s preserve teeming with the sights and sounds of clear water making its way down into Wildcat Creek - and beckoning this visitor today, along its way:
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers who nourish, heal, embrace, cleanse, and offer an indelible sense of security and belonging. Like water, what you offer transforms and restores, over and over … and the world would be less without you. Much less.

EARTH DAY 2023
“Humankind’s attitude toward nature is today critically important simply because we have now acquired a fateful power to alter and destroy nature. But humankind is a part of nature, and its war against nature is inevitably a war against humankind itself. We are challenged as humankind has never been challenged before to prove our maturity and our mastery, not of nature, but of ourselves."
~ Rachel Carson, marine biologist, early DDT researcher, and author of Silent Spring, first published in 1962

[The clear flowing waters of Wildcat Creek as it meanders through Prairiewood’s Preserve]
MINDFUL (in honor of today’s spring snow)
Every day
I see or I hear
something
that more or less
kills me
with delight,
that leaves me
like a needle
in the haystack
of light.
It is what I was born for -
to look, to listen,
to lose myself
inside this soft world -
to instruct myself
over and over
in joy,
and acclamation.
Nor am I talking
about the exceptional,
the fearful, the dreadful,
the very extravagant-
but if the ordinary,
the common, the very drab,
the daily presentations.
Oh good scholar,
I say to myself,
how can I help
but grow wise
with such teachings
as these-
the untrimmable light
of the world,
the ocean’s shine,
the prayers that are made
out of grass?
~Mary Oliver

It’s a wrap! Last night’s final performance in our four-part Jazz Series was the perfect finale.
Thanks to last night’s featured guest Dr. Paul Hunt, to Nate McClendon for curating and hosting this series, and to the House Band and other featured guests who made the premiere of this series so special.
These performances have proven, yet again, that the arts provide critical portals to accessing inspiration, connection, and community. More to come, stay tuned …
