The advent of the skirt lifter in 1846 was met with immediate success in Victorian society.

Skirts in this era were incredibly heavy, with many layers often totalling 6kgs or more.

This device usually appeared as a pair of tongs. Made from brass, the skirt lifter has two circular padded grips that hold a chunk of the material of the skirt up. The lifter then connects to a belt at waist level via a chain. The chain can be pulled to lift the skirt higher in the case of passing expansive puddles and other similar dangers.

It’s creation allowed women to be more active in their lives, even getting involved in sports like tennis, ice skating, and horse riding.

This purple beauty was created for the musical ! While re-enactors aim for historical accuracy, sewing for the stage requires vibrant colors and the ability to move and dance while still giving the correct !

Our very favorite macabre neighbor has returned!! Meet Gabrielle (She/Her) owner of Uniquely Morbid ! She ethically sources dead things (we gave her a bee that stung one of us last year) and creates awesome art for all the bone collecting folk in your lives!

She likes Dinosaurs, anything Strange & Unusual, and the awesome family members who help her out like her cousin Angelique (She/Her), and her mom GeorgeAnna (She/Her).

🐱Did you know?? In addition to our we also sell a range of !! Sewing involves a LOT of scrap fabric, and Sherwood Fineries does its best to divert as many of those scraps from the landfill as possible! Our cat toys are made with scraps from out fleece Hoods!
