Just wanted to take a moment to congratulate all the wrestlers from Washington who've earned their spots at next week’s NAIA Men’s Wrestling National Championships in Park City, Kansas. Without much college wrestling happening in Washington, it's important to celebrate these wrestlers and hope they'll return to help grow the sport here at home. If you know any of them, be sure to give them a big congrats – this is a significant achievement. And a big thanks to Jason Bryant, the best wrestling announcer in the country, for putting this list together.

Congrats to Jaden Jennings from Lake Stevens High School. He will be wrestling at Hastings College in Nebraska.

🎉 Exciting News for Washington State Wrestling Fans! 🤼‍♂️

A Bit of History: Washington State Wrestling Cultural Exchange with Japan 🇯🇵🇺🇸
For decades, the Washington State Wrestling Cultural Exchange program has been a remarkable bridge between two cultures, united by the sport of wrestling. This tradition, deeply rooted in our community, dates back to the first cultural exchange dual meet hosted in Edmonds in 1970. Over the years, it has blossomed into a meaningful exchange of not just athletic prowess, but cultural understanding and lifelong friendships.

🤝 2024 Exchange: Japanese Team Visits Washington
This year, we're thrilled to announce that the Japanese wrestling team will be visiting Washington State from January 4-14! They'll be making stops for dual meets at several of our esteemed high schools - Tahoma, Cashmere, Skyline, and Peninsula. This is more than just a series of matches; it's a celebration of international friendship and the love of wrestling.

đź“Ť Dual Meet Locations & Dates (Reach out to individual schools for start times):

Tahoma High School - 1/6 6:00PM
Cashmere High School - 1/8
Skyline High School - 1/10
Peninsula High School - 1/11

đź‘€ Come and Witness!
It's a unique opportunity to see high-level wrestling and to support our local athletes as they compete with and learn from their Japanese counterparts. Many of the Japanese team members are some of the top wrestlers in the world.

📢 Spread the Word!
Please share this post with your friends and family that might be interested. Let's make this cultural exchange a memorable one for our guests and for our communities.

Washington State Wrestling Coaches and Wrestling Families:

This summer, I'm leading a team of 13 Washington State wrestlers to Japan through the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association. We'll be heading to the Osaka region from June 19th to June 30th for a 10-day trip that includes freestyle wrestling competitions and an immersion into Japanese culture.

The trip usually costs around $3000, and we're on the lookout for high level dedicated freestyle wrestlers to join our team. If you know someone interested, send me a message.

This cultural exchange, facilitated by the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association, has been ongoing for over 50 years. It's more than just a wrestling trip; it's a chance to connect with international athletes and cultures. Join us as we continue this legacy, representing Washington State on the global wrestling stage and creating memories that last a lifetime.

Press Release WSWCA Hall of Fame Class of 2023
www.washingtonwrestling.com/hof

The Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association (WSWCA) is proud to announce the Class of 2023 inductees to the WSWCA Hall of Fame. The HOF ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 during the annual WSWCA Coaches Clinic. Ticket information will be available in September.

The WSWCA Hall of Fame Class of 2023 includes the following coaches listed in alphabetical order: Bryan Bartelson (Puyallup/Orting), Bob Freund (Kelso), Matt Jorgensen (Deer Park), Craig Iversen (Marysville Pilchuck), and Kevin Kalal (Bellarmine Prep). These coaches were selected through a voting system of current HOF members along with the WSWCA Executive Board. There were twenty-one nominees in the head coach category and four nominees in the assistant/middle level category.

In addition to the Hall of Fame induction, the WSWCA will honor two members of the wrestling community for their contributions to the sport in Washington. Randy Tomaras (Sequim) will be awarded the Dr. William Tomaras Award, which was created in honor of Randy’s own father who is recognized as the “Father of Washington Wrestling.” Randy’s father (Bill) and mother (Dolly) are both past recipients of this award. Karen Ebel (Mariner HS/WSWA) will be recognized as the recipient of the Joe Babbitt Contributor’s Award for her many years of service to wrestling on the local, state and national levels.

Attendees of the WSWCA Coaches Clinic can attend the Hall of Fame ceremony as part of their clinic registration. Those not attending the clinic should look for ticket information on the WSWCA website and page in mid-September.
