Hi friends. I haven’t posted in a while. But wanted to share an update. As you already know, Asheville and the surrounding area was devastated by Hurricane Helene. Fortunately my family and I are some of the lucky ones. We are safe and our home is secure. But the destruction to my adopted city, a city that was truly beginning to feel like home, is overwhelming. The lost lives, homes, businesses, is just heartbreaking. No one expected this type of storm. The cleanup up and rebuilding will take years.
With officials still predicting weeks till water is restored and a family member’s medical needs, we were able to head north to family in NY this past Tuesday. Our son’s school, UNCA, will be closed until October 28. I will hopefully travel back before then to resume work, but things are still up in the air.
Despite all of the devastation, people are doing amazing things. Neighbors helping neighbors (mine included!!), businesses opening their doors and offering free water, the list goes on.
If you are inclined to help, I invite you to join me in donating to BeLoved Asheville, a local organization that always has their boots on the ground here in our community, helping the homeless and those struggling to make ends meet. They have been working nonstop to get out and help, checking in and bringing supplies to people cut-off from their loved ones, handing out supplies, food and water. They need our help to continue to do so. Please see the ways you can give below and thank you for letting me share. My heart is just broken for all that has been lost.
