The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is proud to announce that Sabula Police Chief, Shane Nixon, was sworn in this last week at the Supervisor's meeting as our most recent part-time Deputy.

Shane lives in Clinton with his family and two children who keep him extremely busy! He attended Clinton community college as well as Western Illinois online where he majored in criminal justice and business management.

He’s been a law enforcement officer since the winter of 2006 when he began as a part-time officer with the city of LeClaire Iowa. He then went to work for the city of Camanche, Iowa and currently is the Chief of Police in Sabula, Iowa.

He is the owner of Millennia Taekwondo, Chief instructor and an eighth-degree black belt, Master in Taekwondo certified through the World Taekwondo Federation. He’s the CEO of USA Martial Arts. He has studied taekwondo, tangsoodo, kuksoolwon, krav maga, Filipino Kali and Arnis.

Shane travels the world to places such as South Korea, England, Mexico, and Scotland as well as the United States training, teaching, testing and leading martial artists in the pursuit of excellence.

Over the years he’s held duty positions in law enforcement such as evidence technician, evidence room custodian, fleet manager, field training officer, hostage negotiator, tactical team member, community liaison, GTSB Grant coordinator, senior officer and patrolman.

In his free time he likes to spend time with his family, work in his yard, and work on improving himself both mentally and physically. Shane is proud to have the opportunity to serve the citizens of Jackson County as a Deputy.

Timber City Pro Rodeo will bring nothing but the best including Shelby and Chance Danison to Maquoketa. Western Way Entertainment is a performance company based out of Sevierville, TN that was created by a married couple who specialize in music and rodeo performances all around the world. From trick riding, mounted shooting to singing, they do it all. They have many acts they have done in the past, and have included some specialty guests, but their main team is just the two of them. Don't miss them in action Aug. 31 - Sept. 1 at the Jackson County Fairgrounds. Meet them in person at the FREE Preshow from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

You heard it right…there will be Mutton Bustin’ at the upcoming Timber City Pro Rodeo on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 with rodeo start time at 7:00 PM. We will randomly draw 10 lucky buckaroos from all Facebook entries and post winners on Monday August 26 at 10 a.m. Kids must be between ages 4 and 7 and 60 lbs or less. Parents must sign kids in as well as sign a release during Preshow prior to rodeo which starts at 5:30 PM.
