🙏Sending our prayers to the Lence family.
HEARTBREAKING NEWS: Jana M. Lence, of Herrin, has been identified by police as the victim of Saturday night’s fatal accident at Lake of Egypt. Lence was reportedly walking people across the street to a bus from a memorial benefit for her son, Hayden, a former HHS student who tragically died in a motor vehicle accident in December. Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich says the accident was a single vehicle crash in an extremely dark area of the roadway. The Swinford Media Group has featured the Lence family in past reports, and offers our condolences to all those involved.
The Lence family also lost their young daughter to a battle with cancer several years ago. The benefit was taking place at “Just Add Water Bait & Tackle Shop” on Lake of Egypt Road. A luncheon is taking place this afternoon at 11:00 at Lake of Egypt Marina. All donations will be made to the family.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 17 year old juvenile who was traveling home from work. While Deputies observed no signs of impairment, the driver, with parental consent, submitted to voluntary drug and alcohol screening at a local hospital.
Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team assisted the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
