The roller coaster of emotions that I am riding is wild and I know that many of you are experiencing this with me.

I have cried when I hear from customers that I know were in hard hit areas, tears of joy that they are safe, then tears of sadness when I hear of their losses.

Focusing on work has been difficult for me. At first it seemed silly to be doing flowers. It feels like I should be doing more, like there are bigger things that need attention. But I've come to realize that flowers are important in these moments and if I can bring a bit of joy to someone's day or honor a loved one with a special funeral tribute, then doing flowers isn't so silly.

So, the store is open (and we are thanking Jesus and the DOT that Coxes Creek is open and makes it easier to get here 😅) and I'll be glad to create something for you- for your happy moments or your sad ones. 💜

Our personal lives have been greatly impacted by Hurricane Helene and we still do not have power or water at our homes. Our roads on the route to the shop have been destroyed and there is only one long detour to get to the business.

Our shop is luckily unharmed and functioning, however, because we are still dealing with the effects of the storm on our homes, our business hours will be limited for the foreseeable future. We are very grateful for our customers' support and hope that you will be patient with us as we navigate this situation.

The first 2 weeks of October were set to be the busiest ever. I honestly had no idea how I was going to pull it all off. I spent hours just organizing the flower orders, counting up the amount of product needed, and finding the best farms to order from.

Ten weddings over the course of ten days.

Now, all but a few have been canceled or postponed. It's a massive loss to our business and so incredibly sad for the couples who spent hours planning their weddings and looking forward to seeing their plans come together for a beautiful wedding day.
This last week has been so hard, trying to survive with no power and water at home while also trying to think about what could be or needed to be done with the business.

To be honest, when one of my brides said they were going forward with a smaller version of their wedding yesterday, I went through the whole range of emotions from "omg there is no way" to "well, if a box of roses can get here all the way from Ecuador, then I can make if to work" 😂

Ultimately, I am so happy this couple was able to make the best of the situation and still have a beautiful wsdding day.
Shout out to Blanton House for welcoming them and providing a beautiful space, decor, and food on short notice.

If you are out and about today, I have a couple buckets of FREE FLOWERS outside the shop. These are flowers that are a week old and weren't able to be used but still look good enough to enjoy for a day or two. Feel free to grab some for yourself or for a friend or to hand to someone to say thank you. Again, it's not fancy, and they're not high quality but if it makes someone smile for a moment, I figure it's worth sharing.

I really just do not even know where to start with this post so I'll probably babble a bit..

For those of you who do not know, I (Kara) live in Mitchell county and my business partner lives in Avery. Our shop began in downtown Marion after we walked into a building on main street to buy a flower cooler but fell in love with the place and decided to stay.

McDowell county has been hit hard by this storm and the flooding has just been unreal. Seeing pictures of places you pass by every day covered in water, and now in mud, is hard to wrap your mind around. None of this seems real.

While the shop does have water and power, our homes do not. Our homes were spared from damage, but my sister and her family lost their home and most of their belongings. But, we are certainly blessed to have our family safe together- the whole greasy haired, smelly bunch of us!

Our first, secondary, and third possible routes to work have been destroyed and it will likely be months before any of them are open. One of the secondary roads we travel will likely be shut down at some point for repairs as well. Every day is a maze and it feels like driving in a video game.

So, for now, please bear with us as we are likely to have some sporadic hours as we figure out a way to balance work and survival mode at home. I'm sure that things will balance out a bit more as utilities are restored.
I still have no cell service or wifi at my home, but I will try to keep up with posting updates on our status here on FB and IG.

I have loved seeing our communities pull together to support one another, I wish I had been able to give more myself, but instead I've had to learn to accept the help and donations. I am so grateful to those of you who have sent food, water, and clothing, and offered showers and places to stay. I'm sure I'll be able to pay it forward soon!
