“I’m so excited to have been able to work with the Krewe of Argus to reschedule their big day. This unique situation will allow us to bring together two of Jefferson Parish’s most historic traditions. The union of Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day will be on full display on Metairie Road,” said Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng. “I want to thank the Jefferson Parish Council for their support, especially District 5 Councilman Hans Liljeberg.”

“We can’t wait to have two cherished Jefferson Parish krewes parade together through the streets of District 5. Thank you to everyone who worked together to make this exciting and unprecedented opportunity possible,” said Jefferson Parish Councilman Hans Liljeberg (District 5).

“On behalf of our entire Krewe, we thank Jefferson Parish for making this happen! Our Krewe will be thrilled with this new experience,” said Argus Co-Captain Lawrence Chehardy.

“We are humbled by the outpouring of support that we have received,” said Argus Co-Captain Rob DeViney.

The St. Patrick’s Parade Committee of Jefferson has stated that they are happy to extend an invitation to the Krewe of Argus to parade on Metairie Road with them. The approximately 3.6-mile route will start at 41st Street and Severn Avenue, proceeding south on Severn and turning left on Metairie Road. Both parades will travel down Metairie Road and take a left turn on Focis Street, then travel down Focis Street to Canal Street, where they will disband. Founded in 1971, the St. Patrick Parade of Jefferson has been taking to the streets of Old Metairie for over fifty years in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. The Krewe of Argus was founded in 1972 by several civic-minded Jefferson Parish businessmen and traditionally rolls on the streets of Veterans Boulevard in Metairie on Mardi Gras Day.

Jefferson Parish officials are continuing to work with the Elks Krewe of Jeffersonians on the possibility of rescheduling to a later date; stay tuned for updates.
