One of the best things about manor house for big groups is the kitchen! We have a huge kitchen with two ovens, two fridges, and two freezers so you can cook for big groups! There’s also a lot of space for people to sit and chat while others food prep. The large island is perfect not only for prep but also for serving food. Last but not least, Dustin is a chef, so the kitchen is totally outfitted with everything you need plus an amazing cabinet of spices to use!

Get your game on! When we finished the dining room add on at the Manor House Airbnb I was stumped on what to do with this area in front of the fireplace. We have four sofas in this house- we do not need another one! I decided I wanted something playful, where someone could sit down and play a game/create memories. So Dustin and I hit our favorite store ***cobarn. I was ecstatic to find these two authentic game boards with all the original pieces! We glued the boards to two side tables we weren’t using and voila- we have this awesome area where you can get your game on while still being part of the group in the kitchen or dining room. It was a loooooong renovation, but the dining room addition at the manor is finally done and we could not be happier about it! When we bought the house the deck off the dining room was sloped towards the house so water sat and was leaking down into the basement. Since we already had a large deck area, we ended up choosing to completely encapsulate that part of the deck into the house to create an incredible dining room with tall ceilings and walls of windows. The effect is literally feeling like you’re inside a fish bowl staring out at a forest and pond! We have two chairs facing the windows where we love to sit, eat, drink and chat as we stare outside. The addition also allows us enough room to bring in a folding table and now the dining room can comfortably seat 20 at tables and 5 more on a sofa and two chairs. It’s become the favorite spot in the house!

I haven’t posted much lately because we’ve run into some problems with renovations and it’s been really rough. It’s so hard not to be frustrated and even angry when things go sideways. I am working on remembering that those moments are opportunities to look for gratitude, find good in everyone and remember that nobody can make you feel or act a certain way, only you can do that.

Our family motto has always been “To Live and Give Abundantly.” Perhaps the true test is learning to embrace that motto when abundance feels scarce.

The dining room at the loft was a home run! I found the leather banquette at West Elm and fell in love with it! Dustin’s handcrafted table is my favorite thing he’s made yet! I hope it becomes a memorable place for gathering, laughing, and enjoying incredible food!

Not only have we been wrapping up the loft and renovations at the manor, but we’re also building a wood fired oven on the property!

It will cook a pizza in 90 seconds! We’re going to plant a pizza garden nearby and I foresee some amazing pizza nights for our guests!

One thing we did in this renovation was make BIG bathrooms. We know in a vacation rental a luxury spa-like bathroom can give you a sense of relaxation and pampering.

This huge walk in shower with teak bench is the perfect place to allow the hot water and steam to decompress you from your day!!

After weeks of almost no sleep, hiring lots of help, and major hustle, our first guests are sleeping in the loft tonight!!!!

We are still working on creating an incredible art wall where the TV is, but things are looking pretty amazing right now.

I grabbed some quick shots 10 minutes before they checked in, and will do a professional shoot when I have a break between guests here later this month. More pics coming but must sleep now, so little sleep but so happy to be done-ish.

However, just wanted to show one of the best surprises for me. I actually hated this bathroom, the tile was supposed to go all the way to the ceiling, this is the third vanity that I have purchased, I didn’t like the colors after I chose them, I have been frustrated with this one from the start. However, it totally came together and now I adore it. The vanity is a cool piece I found off marketplace, and was a custom expensive redesign someone sold. The shower is humongous and I can’t wait to take a shower in it one day!

More pics coming but must sleep now, so little sleep but so happy to be done!

The loft started as a to***co barn with thick wood boards. Later it was turned into a woodshop on the main level and a office space on top and stuccoed and painted white. We’re almost done stripping all the wood boards back to natural wood and painting the stucco a a blue/gray color. Next up is planting vines to grow up the building and to put potted plants around the base of the house. We’re also looking for someone to come and paint the garage with a fun design and will be hanging a custom made sign as well. Fun progress!

This is the bathroom that is connected to the bedroom I posted yesterday.

When we went to redesign the loft space it was a work space with one bedroom, one enclosed kitchen/conference room, a men’s and women’s restroom and the rest was open space filled with cubicles. We knew we wanted at least three bedrooms and they all had to have an en-suite bathroom! This bathroom was part of the designated men’s room and the bedroom was the kitchen/conference room.

What I love in this bathroom is the bright fun colors (my shower curtain is on the way), the modern vanity that is real wood, and the fabulous mirror I found and bought half a year ago because I knew I’d find a spot someday for it!

Our first guests show up in seven days and we’re working hard to get the loft finished! This bedroom is the closest so far.

This king suite has a Crate and Barrel bed (with luxury Casa Luna quilt I splurged on), West Elm sconces, a West Elm armoire with full length mirrors, a 50” TV and a full bathroom with combo tub and shower. I love the bright colors, soft mattress, and the cozy satiny quilt!

Dustin is a lot of things but two of his greatest gifts are: being an incredible chef and an amazingly talented craftsman. As such he’s passionate about dining room tables because he knows they are the table top to hold his master cuisine.

Dustin is planning on making a custom table for each of vacation rentals. The loft table is going to be an eye catching spalted maple and should be done soon! Cannot wait!

If tables could talk....

Before we had figured out very much of the design aspects of loft we knew we wanted it to reflect an industrial craftsman feel. This loft is on the second floor of what was once an old to***co barn, the first floor is now a wood shop and welding studio used by my husband. So we decided to play up the urban loft feel of being up a flight of stairs, and bring in a strong element of art and craftsmanship because it’s located over a craftsman’s studio. As such one of our first design decisions was finding a kitchen island that had once been an old craftsman work table. When we saw this table ***cobarn we instantly fell in love! I love the pockmarked top, the worn out wood, and a couple drip spots of paint (one being a lovely splash of red). I can’t help but wonder, how old is this table? Where did it come from? Whose hands crafted things on it and what are those creators stories? What has its surface held and helped create?

I hope this table now tells the stories of families gathered around reconnecting, laughing, and swapping their own stories. I hope it holds vegetables, fruits and eggs fresh off our farm that our guests have gathered. I hope it helps prepare dinners that bring people together.

Oh, hello views! One of the best things the loft has is the many incredible views from each window. From the kitchen and living room you have long range Blue Ridge Mountain views along with views of farmstead and manor. From the bedrooms you have views that perfectly frame, like a well chosen piece of art, an old to***co barn surrounded by trees next to a small creek. From the dining room you have a winding country road and the tree tops.

We knew we had to capitalize on these views so we replaced almost every window! This kitchen window is my favorite! It’s enormous and brings the incredible outdoors inside!

We started furnishing Loft Vacation Rental today and I absolutely adore how it’s coming together; the pictures don’t do it justice!

The high ceilings make everything feel open and spacious. The 5 big windows in this space stare out at a canopy of lush green trees, long range mountain views, and views of the farm, pond, and manor below! The color scheme of the warm hickory cabinets and the red brick contrasting against a green accent wall and the gray concrete countertops is sublime. Add in a pop of color with a west elm camel colored leather banquette, a pink sofa (yes pink, also West Elm), a bright colored rug that mimics a paint pallet and bright blue chairs and you have a space that looks like it has come straight out of a magazine!

I’ll be posting updates and more pics as we go! Can’t wait to share as the three bedrooms and four bathrooms come together!

Spring and summer flowers is pure happiness and fun surprises! This year we had peonies pop up that we’ve never seen before!!! I am so grateful that the people before us spent so much time and care and money in the yard, it’s truly a paradise.

Since we’ve purchased the property we’ve added hundreds of new shrubs, flowers, trees, and plants. We’ve lined the road with sycamores. We’ve started lilliepads and other aquatic plants growing in the pond. We’ve added annuals in the beds and in flowering pots throughout. Thanks to most of these plants and trees are native to the area! We are so grateful to create a place that is blooming and bringing joy to our guests almost all year long!

Cafe lights, a pair of old antique doors, pots of flowers, and a new set of modern chairs and voila- a space we’ve never used has turned into my new favorite nook at the manor house! Just one more cozy spot to enjoy a good book, reconnect in a conversation, or enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of a covered porch surrounded by flowers and ivy.

😍😍😍😍!!!! The brick is done, concrete counters should be sealed tomorrow and my awesome copper boards went up over the range hood today!

Let me tell you a story about the copper over the range hood. My husband and I were shopping at one of our favorite salvage yards in Florida and I found these copper boards. There was no price on them and nobody could figure out exactly where these came from or what their value was so they gave it all to me for $70. I didn’t know if they would work but I thought they’d be amazing to put over our range hood. We found an old beam to go on the bottom and put the copper on top and it looks amazing with the red bricks and warm tones from the Hickory cabinets.

I adore all the warm tones inside against the pure green pallet out the window! The effect is fabulous!

While shopping for tile for bathrooms we ran across this brick. It wasn’t cheap. We debated if it was worth the big price tag. It’s halfway up and I already can’t imagine this industrial craftsman loft without it! So happy we splurged!

The loft vacation rental is still going full swing! All four bathrooms have tile now, paint should be done by the end of the week, and the kitchen concrete counters are happening tomorrow! With any luck I’ll be furnishing some rooms (the best part of renovations) this weekend!!!

Tonight Dustin and I sat on the freshly mowed grass staring at a gorgeous sky painted in orange and blue hues. Out of nowhere a crescent moon surprised us with its appearance. We took in the hundreds of pink flowers surrounding the house that are blooming right now. We noted for the hundredth time how incredible it is to be in a literal bowl of towering trees.

We listened to the birds chirping, and the constant run of water from the waterfall and stream on the property. The air held the promises of warm days and cool nights. We talked and thanked God for the beautiful place that is.

We’ve been working so hard renovating the loft and the manor, planting thousands of dollars worth of trees and plants, building the barn (okay we didn’t do anything on that but watch ;), redoing the deck, etc. It was nice to sit and soak it all in and remember why this place is so so special! God is good!
