Ann's Floral Lampshade 💡

I've been holding on to this lampshade frame for awhile, but never had a good idea for how to use it. My maternal grandmother, Ann, used to make beautiful paper, hand-punched and painted lampshades, and I have several in my house. This piece is a nod to her beautiful work.

Inspired by the "Will it lamp?" Reels by (they're amazing, do yourself a favor and check them out), I realized a lampshade is basically a multi-dimensional wreath ring - Eureka!

The process was a bit tedious, and dried flowers don't necessarily lend themselves to longevity - particularly if you have active children in the house - but I'm pretty pleased with the overall effect. Thanks for the inspiration! ✨

So. Many. Plants.

This year I am experimenting with Amaryllis and Paperwhites as cut flowers. So far the Paperwhites have lasted over a week in a vase of fresh water. The Amaryllis haven't quite opened yet, but I'll keep you posted on my findings. I've read that Amaryllis blooms can last 2+ weeks in the case! 🥰

This bird cookie chandelier didn't turn out quite right...

The seed is held together with a gelatin mix that didn't fully set, a bunch of the bird cookies fell apart, but a few of them held up and I hung them from a grapevine wreath, along with some millet. It's not a particularly beautiful creation, it's certainly not what I had in mind, but it was fun to make and it will feed the birds. Success? I think so. And also a friendly reminder that mistakes will happen, things will crumble, and there's definitely something to be gained from trying new things.🪶

Zinnia seeds saved from 2024. I'm excited to see how these grow - I sorted each flower by color, made sure they were fully dry, then separated seeds from petals. These were all open pollinated, so there's potential for interesting colors, I'm expecting a mixed bag with these. It's still too early to start seedlings, but I am starting the process of seed inventory, garden layout - and seed ordering!
