This bird cookie chandelier didn't turn out quite right...

The seed is held together with a gelatin mix that didn't fully set, a bunch of the bird cookies fell apart, but a few of them held up and I hung them from a grapevine wreath, along with some millet. It's not a particularly beautiful creation, it's certainly not what I had in mind, but it was fun to make and it will feed the birds. Success? I think so. And also a friendly reminder that mistakes will happen, things will crumble, and there's definitely something to be gained from trying new things.🪶

Zinnia seeds saved from 2024. I'm excited to see how these grow - I sorted each flower by color, made sure they were fully dry, then separated seeds from petals. These were all open pollinated, so there's potential for interesting colors, I'm expecting a mixed bag with these. It's still too early to start seedlings, but I am starting the process of seed inventory, garden layout - and seed ordering!
I love dreaming about the upcoming season ✨

First holiday wreaths are headed to and this morning! ❄️

Winterberry! It's such a pretty plant, particularly in stick season. These plants are just 2 years old, and produce berries on last year's growth. I clipped a few sprigs this year for myself, and next year I'll hopefully 🤞 have more stems for tucking into wreaths. The berries left on the plant will be food for the birds - a nice snack to go with the sunflower heads left in the garden beds. 🌻🎈

All I really want is some time with friends, making pretty things. Come make mini wreaths and flower crowns with me on Nov. 17th from 3-5 where we will prioritize joy and community and time together. ✨💞

The suggested donation for this workshop is $20-30 but it is open to all, and no one will be turned away. If you don't feel crafty, just come and hang out. Hope to see you there

View from the window ❄️

The kids were so excited for snow last night and I must admit it's pretty magical. They were so surprised to see snowflakes before Halloween and did a little celebratory dance to welcome winter. I remember planning costumes around winter coats as a kid, and snow before Halloween wasn't out of the ordinary (am I sounding old now?)

I will admit, though I'm not quite buttoned up for winter, I'm happy for the colder nights. Evergreens retain their color and needles for longer if they've gone dormant by the time we start harvesting.

Now I suppose it's time to get the rest of the bulbs in the ground! 🥶
