Meet resident artist Sue Purpura in studio 201b. From the artist:

My name is Sue Purpura. I am originally from Massachusetts, but moved to Indiana while in the Army in the 70s and liked it enough to stay. My husband, Phil, and I recently celebrated our 49th anniversary. We have two children and four grandchildren.
I began my art experiences in high school, drawing teen idols for friends and dabbling with painting landscapes. After a hiatus rearing our children, I began painting as a motorcycle pinstriper and a muralist, continuing for eleven years. More recently, I discovered the Art Sanctuary in Martinsville and decided to move into a studio to further concentrate on my art.

This Friday begins 10 days of honoring and saluting Veterans here in Martinsville in Morgan County. Things kick off Friday Aug. 9 for the Veteran Art Show at The Art Sanctuary of Indiana. Then The Wall That Heals arrives in town Tuesday Aug. 13. It will coming into town with an es**rt of over 140 motorcycle riders and vehicles. It will be leaving Mooresville at 11;30 and coming into Martinsville about noon. We want to line Morgan St. with people waving flags signifying the importance of this event to our community. We welcome everyone to begin lining up on Morgan St. shortly after 11;30 and look for our Flag Coordinators at the street corners passing out American flags. The opening ceremony for The Wall will be Thursday Aug. 15 at 9 am and the public is invited. Special guests will be Mayor Costin, Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and Medal of Honor Recipient Sammy Davis. Sammy Davis will be hosting a signing of his book in the 4-H building following the ceremony. Friday evening Aug. 16 at 9:30 there will be a candlelight ceremony honoring those who did and still suffer from the effects of Agent Orange. The public is welcome to come to this very moving ceremony. Saturday at the Martinsville V.F.W. there will be special fund raising event for the Morgan County Veterans Memorial. Dinner will be served from 6-7 pm. followed by The Lance Camaron Band IV will play blues, soul and rock n’ roll commencing at approximately 7:15 PM and continuing until approximately 10:30 PM. Tickets may be purchased from Roger Coffin by calling (317) 446-9472. Proceeds go to maintaining the Morgan County Veterans Memorial on the square downtown. The week closes out with the closing ceremonies of The Wall That Heals on Sunday Aug. 18 at 2:00 pm. Once again the public is invited to see what is sure to be a moving close to Morgan County's recognition of veterans. If you have any questions concerning any of these events please PM and I will answer your questions. What a wonderful time for all ages to take time to recognize these men and women who have preserved the freedoms we enjoy everyday.

Here are some photos of the community art project started by the young artists who take classes with The Creative Academy. Everyone in the community is welcome to add a painted rock to the snake. We are excited to see how long it can get! Snap a selfie of you adding your painted rock and drop it in the comments for the young artists to see! They love checking in each week to look for new rocks.
