Ismael "Meeko" Moreno
April 8, 1955-February 11, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that another Flying U and Rosser family member is riding away into the sunset. Meeko was originally from Bakersfield but has called the Flying U Ranch in Marysville home for over 40 years. During his tenure in the rodeo business, he has tackled nearly every job inside and outside the arena. He did it all with a million-dollar smile, and had the ability to make you laugh even when you didn’t want to. He had an unmatched attention to detail in every event he worked. In recent years, he was a master at pyro and a Christmas Tree flocking extraordinaire. Meeko, always sharply dressed, and with the most infectious smile was a steadfast staple of the Flying U. Meeko will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on at the Flying U.

We kicked off the 90th Annual Marysville Stampede, Cotton's hometown rodeo, by proudly unveiling the Cotton Rosser Bronze Monument, masterfully created by renowned Western artist Jeff Wolf Studios.

Hundreds gathered to honor Cotton’s enduring legacy, now immortalized in a larger-than-life bronze statue of him on horseback, tipping his hat. MakeLine Productions beautifully captured this momentous celebration and those that traveled far and wide to celebrate Cotton.

Visit the Cotton Rosser Bronze Monument in Washington Square, Marysville, CA, and join us for the Marysville Stampede rodeo on September 14 & 15, 2024 at Cotton Rosser Arena.

On behalf of the Rosser family, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all who donated, volunteered, and helped bring this project to life to forever honor The King of the Cowboys.

________

“The King of the Cowboys”

A legend in the rodeo world, Cotton Rosser embodied the spirit of the American cowboy with unwavering dedication and passion. Renowned for his contributions to the cowboy sport, he earned countless awards and accolades throughout his illustrious career, earning the title "King of the Cowboys" Notably inducted into the ProRoded Hall of Fame, he also made history as the first-ever Triple Crown winner at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma, a testament to his lifelong commitment to promoting Western heritage and traditions.

His name is synonymous with the great family entertainment the Flying U Rodeo Company has provided for generations, but beyond his legendary status in the rodeo arena, was a man who loved his animals, his family, and the opportunity to entertain audiences worldwide, with the Marysville Stampede holding a special place in his heart.

Cotton was not only a rodeo icon, but also a devoted family man, skilled pioneering cowboy pilot, rancher, and extraordinary rodeo producer with "a million dollars worth of friends and memories". His legacy lives on through the Rosser Family, Flying U Rodeo Co., and Cotton's Cowboy Corral, a cherished western store in Historic Marysville.

In recognition of his enduring impact, the city of Marysville declared August 5th as Cotton Rosser Day in 2021. Each year, his legacy for western flare is enjoyed at the Marysville Stampede and Cattle Drive, a true testament to his lasting influence on the community he proudly called home.

"Rodeo's the best thing in the world to me. I never got rich, but I've lived like I am rich. All the great friends I have met along the way made me rich. All I ever dreamed about was being a cowboy”.
