MEET OUR TEAM 🧡⚖️❤

The Maryville College Concert Choir is led by a student-run leadership team founded over 20 years ago. Each year, the choir nominates, and votes on the positions you see listed, and these are the results-- Congratulations to these elected officers for next year's Choir Leadership Team!

This team's mission for the upcoming school year is to create a community that fosters accountability and unification in and outside the choir. The Recital Choir Concert was a great success for our student conductors, Jackie Manning, Brianna Marcopulos, Dana Chantel (Patterson), and Elaina Wilson! Thank you to everyone that came to support this event— we are grateful for our wonderful friends, family, faculty, and alumni. 💛

This concert was a capstone project for our Advance Conducting Students, under the direction of Stacey Murphy Wilner, providing them the educational experience of putting together a concert. The students did everything from the programs to the logistics requests to planning rehearsals… it truly gave them an immersive learning opportunity that all have benefitted from greatly. You can read more in depth about their process for putting this concert together via the press release link here— https://www.maryvillecollege.edu/news/2024/maryville-college-rehearsal-choir-to-spotlight-student-conductors/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR2Pd52_o--PDzfTmYhmDKPdBxxGp--4qmTZPLFzbcxHMhi- 1ymihDxuTD8_aem_AaCOfPWLUSg1g78b37euLafekQ5sHGPtDwo6JvHuPGnS5Nz6YWKeArcudegB9WtJzNCJeRF3KDitNJC81dwGNBom

✨Conducting Student Spotlight✨

Jackie Manning is a sophomore working toward her BA in Music. She has been in the MC Concert Choir, Off Kilter, and the Lads for last two years. She’s also served as a pianist and organist/choirmaster at three local congregations.

✨ She has loved being on the other side of the choir. Singing is wonderful, but she’s learned that she likes conducting even more!

✨ This class has really helped her a lot with social anxiety. It helps having a shared goal with the singers as well!

✨ If you are considering taking a choral methods or conducting course, do it! It's such a useful tool, not only to know how to conduct, but also how to understand your conductor.

We cannot wait for you to see Jackie take to the podium, and the organ, during tomorrow’s Recital Choir Concert. The concert begins at 12:15pm and will be held in the Harold and Jean Lambert Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public!

✨Conducting Student Spotlight✨

Dana Chantel (Patterson) is a sophomore Vocal Music Education major. She has been in the MC Concert Choir, Off Kilter, Lassies for two years and is an Alto section leader. She was recently voted into the position of Choir Chaplain for the upcoming year. Along with her studies and work with the choral department, she also serves a Choir Scholar and the Children’s Choir Director for New Providence Presbyterian Church and leads on campus worship as an MC Chapel Scholar.

✨Her favorite part about recital choir has been learning how to connect with the music she’s been teaching/conducting. This class has forced her to think beyond learning the notes on the page. It’s powerful to connect with your choir.

✨ She hopes to transfer her learning through her work with NPPC’s children’s choir, but also hopes to use what she’s learned with future choirs after graduating.

✨ If there is a chance anyone might have an interest in learning how to conduct she would recommend taking this class— “At first I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to teach music, but this class has helped me realize being a conductor is something I want to do with my future.”

We look forward to seeing Dana take the podium on the Harold and Jean Lambert Revital Hall this Wednesday, April 17th, during the Recital Choir Concert at 12:15pm. This concert is free and open to the public!

✨ Conducting Student Highlight ✨

Brianna Marcopulos is a senior working toward her B. A in music. She has been a part of the MC Concert Choir, the Lassies and Off Kilter for four years, and has served on our leadership team as a uniform officer for three years and soprano section leader for one.

✨ Her favorite part of recital choir has been rehearsing her own choir.

✨ This process has taught her what it takes to prepare for a concert, so she feels ready to plan for one of her own (when the time comes).

✨ For those considering studying music and exploring choral conducting methods, she shares, “Conducting isn’t as easy as it looks. It takes coordination, patience, and focus. These method courses can help prepare you in ways you didn’t know you’d need as a musician— take the class!”

✨ Come support our conducting students as they present their Recital Choir Concert this Wednesday, April 17th, at 12:15pm in the Harold and Jean Lambert Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public!
