Our Story
About Us: Uncensored Society is a bi-weekly, open mic event hosted by Drew Himes and Amanda Stoddard. We welcome all kinds of performance art but are centered around poetry and spoken word. We started Uncensored Society in December of 2014, and it has been going strong ever since! Our Story: The idea for this event was created through Amanda's love for poetry and Drew's love for event planning. Together they brainstormed ideas on what exactly would make a fun event for writers and performers alike to really express themselves. They knew they wanted to do an open mic night but wanted to reach out to the people who needed a place to be themselves and build community. After multiple Starbucks meetings and iced coffees, Uncensored Society was born! The first event ever, held at Kidd Coffee, had around 80 plus people. Each year since has been an amazing experience with new people and new performances. Drew and Amanda are so honored that their dream and vision has been thriving for over four years now. Our Mission: Here at Uncensored Society we pride ourselves on being an open venue where people can come and express themselves in their most genuine and honest form. It's important that people have an outlet where they can be who they really are, and say what's on their mind. Our goal is to be a positive support system in the lives of those who need it most. Through art we can all feel empathy, compassion and understanding for one another. More Info: Join us every other Thursday. Sign Ups for Open Mic start at 7:00pm. Show Starts at 7:30pm . $5 Cover Charge. *Cash Only.
