Any day now (and probably tonight) we will wake up to crystallized blooms which will mark the official end of the 2023 growing season. But since we already have things growing for 2024 is not as bittersweet as it’s been in past years.

We’re pulling up the last of our dahlias this week and packing them away. Our bulbs patiently wait for planting and our seedlings for next year are growing slowly but surely, protected from the cold in the leaf litter and mulch.

It doesn’t feel like goodbye anymore, when the first frost comes. It feels like I’ll see you later, after we both get some rest 😂.

Our little business made it into the paper! When we started 2 years ago I don’t think we could have ever anticipated the opportunities and support we’ve gotten from our families and our community.

It’s been an amazing 2 years (almost) and we’re already busy planning for 2024. None of it would be possible without our followers and customers who have shown an outpouring of enthusiasm for what we do here. This year we started to do wedding and it’s been an amazing experience. Next year we’re hoping for more weddings, vendors, and to open a you-pick so we can share in this experience with all of you.

So thank you for all you do for us. Every like, comment and share helps us. Every bouquet you order or of locally grown, organic flowers helps move our business forward in developing sustainable healthy farming practices.

We’re learning and growing and we’re so happy we get to do it in this place with this type of community. So thank you. ♥️

Thank goodness for this rain! We were unsure if we’d be able to make enough quality bouquets with this hot weather and the orders we have weekly…. But we did!

But we’ve been able to harvest enough for a small pop up stand this weekend! Our stand is currently set up at 1292 Jadwyn rd. Maurertown, Va. since today is supposed to get really hot, we’ve put a smaller amount out and will be refilling it as you all make your selections.

We’re going to have it self service as usually. Also the home our stand sits in front of is a private residence.

Throw back to when we harvested a trunk full of dryables …

We decided last year that we were going to focus on growing more varieties of dryable flowers and it appears that we’ve had success. I think Janel and I would both agree our favorite new addition is the yellow billy balls.

I didn’t dry much of it this year, but poor man’s orchid also dried down surprisingly well. Next year we will be planting more as poor man’s orchid also holds the spot this year in new filler flower.

I’m interested to know what flowers you grow and dry. Leave suggestions or you favorite dryables in the comments below👇🏼. Also, what have you found is the best way to dry them???

Hello everybody!

We had an incredible turn out today at our little stand, and we sold out in just a few hours! Thank you for supporting us!

We hear that the bouquets sold out before everyone had a chance to stop by and grab one (or two 😉). Luckily we were able to put together a few more together today!

With tomorrow being Father’s Day we will be putting out the rest of the flowers we have in the morning, then spending the day loving on the dads in our lives.

The stand should be ready by 11am. Located on 1292 Jadwyn Rd. The residence is private, so self serve as usual.

Hey guys! We've been really busy here on the farm and haven't made a favorite flower post in awhile. So today were back with this little gem, Poormans Orchid. This wonderful whimsy flower maybe at the top of the list for new flowers were growing this year.

🌿 The Poorman Orchid (Scientific name: Schizanthus pinnatus) is a captivating flowering plant native to the temperate regions of South America, particularly Chile. What makes the Poorman Orchid truly captivating is its vibrant and delicate blooms that resemble tiny little orchids. Its flowers showcase a wide array of colors, ranging from vivid purples, pinks, and blues to soft pastels. The petals have a strikingly intricate and finely serrated shape, giving the flowers an almost feathery appearance.

🌍 Poorman Orchids are primarily found in mountainous regions, growing in the wild among rocky slopes and well-drained soil. They thrive in cooler temperatures and are known to withstand both sunny and partly shaded environments. There a wonderful springtime flower and a must have if you love orchids!

🌱 Cultivation: While these orchids have their origins in the wild, they can also be grown in home gardens or as potted plants. They require well-drained soil, consistent watering, and a cool climate to flourish. With proper care, you can enjoy the beauty of Poorman Orchids right at your doorstep.

💡 Interesting Fact: Unlike most orchids, the Poorman Orchid is an annual plant, meaning it completes its life cycle within a year. However, its stunning blossoms make up for its short lifespan by putting on an incredible display during the flowering season.

Hey Gardeners! Make sure you are harvesting and enjoying those blooms! June is a great time to start harvesting flowers from your garden. Its important to cut blooms in the early morning or late evening when they are well-hydrated, and enjoy them indoors or share them with friends and family.

06/01/2023

Hello Gardeners! If you haven't done it yet, make sure you put in supports for your tall plants! If you have tall or vining flowers, provide them with adequate support like stakes, trellises, or cages. This will help prevent them from bending or breaking under the weight of their foliage or blooms.

Already harvesting for next year….

Our seasons really has only begun and we’re already planning and preparing for next year. I never really thought about how important planning and preparing for the future in this industry would be.

I’ve found that just as soon as something comes out of season it’s time to prepare for the next years season of it. It’s a constant turnover and under of crops that’s always changing and evolving.

It’s all new and it’s a lot of planning and then work of top of that. But when the flowers start opening it makes it all worth it.

05/28/2023

Hello flower friends! As your gardens start coming to life make sure you are Deadheading spent blooms! Remove faded or spent flowers to encourage new blooms and extend the flowering season. Deadheading also helps maintain the overall appearance of your garden.

Hey Gardeners! Consider fertilizing your garden flowers in May to promote robust growth and abundant blooms. Choose a balanced, slow-release fertilizer and follow the manufacturer's instructions for application rates. Making sure your plants have the right nutrients available to them is a crucial part of growing and abundant garden!

05/20/2023

Remember May is a good time to w**d your garden and set yourself up for success the rest of the year! When the weather isn't too hot and w**d seedlings are just emerging. Regularly inspect your flower beds for w**ds and remove them promptly. Weeds compete with your flowers for nutrients and water, so keeping them in check is crucial for healthy growth. We recommend a Action Hoe and a hori hori knife to make the job easier!

05/17/2023

Garden Tip: Mulching!! Apply a layer of organic mulch around your garden flowers to help retain moisture, suppress w**d growth, and regulate soil temperature. Maintain a depth of 2-3 inches, taking care to avoid direct contact with the flower stems.

05/15/2023

Hey Garden friends! As the weather warms up, monitor the moisture levels in your garden. Water your flowers deeply and regularly, especially during dry spells and aim for morning or evening watering to minimize evaporation!
