I moved the remaining flowers to the flower stand in case there are any late-comers who still want to donate + make a bouquet.
I am absolutely thrilled with the outcome of this event!
I heard from several people that they wanted to help but didn't know a trustful source to donate to.
We were told about the response from @samaritanspurse and that they are not only on the ground in the thick of it, but reaching out to check on people's emotional needs.
Our dahlia bouquet bar is in full swing!
It's such a beautiful day, and the fields are heavy with blooms. Somehow, the frost didn't do any major damage, so people are really enjoying getting to take a look around.
So thankful to everyone coming out to contribute!

Dahlias for Dennice & T
Help us support local loved ones directly affected by hurricane Helene this Saturday and Sunday at our farm.
We will set out buckets of freshly cut dahlia stems for you to choose from and make your own bouquets, and the full cost of each bouquet will go directly to Dennice and Katina. We grow a lot of unique varieties, so we anticipate this to be a fun opportunity for our community to come together and do some good for some very deserving women!
All the help we can give will surely have a ripple effect as they work to literally piece back together their home, and no doubt be of service to their community back in North Carolina.
DETAILS
DIY Dahlia Bouquet Bar $2/stem
10am-6pm Saturday Oct 19
10am-3pm Sunday Oct 20 if we still have flowers
1755 Woody Rd McKinleyville
Drive to the end of the road, park on the street
If frost skips over us tonight, we will be cutting all the dahlias we can so that we can set up a diy bouquet bar, instead of bouquets, this Sat & Sun.
This will be a very special event, as all proceeds will be donated to a former neighbor who moved to the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, and just experienced the devastation of hurricane Helene.
We had wanted to make a big announcement to spread throughout our local community, but with temps forecasted to dip into the high 30’s tonight, we just aren’t sure how many flowers we’ll actually have to cut.
There are also rumors of Dorothy Cox’s pies being a part of this (hopefully🤞🏼) fundraising event, so please stay tuned!

The Dahlias are starting to color up with all their blooms. It’s been a long wait this year!
What is it that makes your heart sing when you think of your dahlias? For me, it’s discovering them all over again as they bloom. It doesn’t matter if it’s the first time I’ve seen it, or my sixth season with it, the greeting by each cheerful bloom is the best hello. My heart sings all over again when I look through the pictures I’ve taken. It never gets old. •📷: Double Jill 🌸 If you don’t want to commit to yellow just yet, she’s a great one to start with.
On Thursday Jake started chopping down the Field patch. We’re excited to harvest the tubers and see how well they grew!
Did you know the main reason we grow dahlias is to harvest the tubers that multiply beneath the ground over the course of a season? The weather has cooled, signaling to the flowers that it’s time to wind down. On Thursday Jake started the process of chopping the plants down. Next, we will dig them all up!
At the beginning of each season I’ll usually take a long moment to stand quietly looking out over the fields and wonder how it will all unfold. I think about the challenges, the things I’ll learn, what first evers I’ll experience, and what I’ll swear-to-never-do again. Growing the dahlias, and in life!
