We are so excited to have so many incoming future Band members!
Last night, students in our Honors Band took part in the McKinney ISD All District Band auditions. This competitive audition process required our students to complete 3 rounds of individual audition playing in front of a panel of judges, as well as all of their middle school band peers in the district. 290 students in McKinney took part in this event.
Students were scored by the judges, and competitively ranked. The top percentage of each instrument section was awarded with a seat in the “All District Band”. This special All Star Group will perform a concert on November 18th.
CMS has a long tradition of a high level of success. We are happy to announce that CMS had far and away the largest number of placements, 39 students received a seat. This is not an “everyone gets a prize” type competition. The competition is fierce and the band students of McKinney are all VERY well prepared. We are very proud of all of our students and their accomplishments.
Of these 39 students, 5 of them were named first chair and get bragging rights to say that they were the best player in all of McKinney on their instrument this year. We also had a large number of 2nd chair placements. There were also 5 students who did not place into the band, but were named “alternate”. These students would be a substitute for the concert should someone get sick, and should be celebrated as well!
Congratulations to the CMS Concerto Winners
A large number of students in the CMS Honors Band took part in the Concerto Level classification of our Solo Festival on Saturday.
Congratulations to:
Woodwind Winner: Evie Miller, Clarinet (advances to District)
Brass Winner: Jonah Ampil, Euphonium (advances to District)
Wildcard Runner-up, Matthew Nall, Alto Saxophone (advances to District)
These three talented musicians advanced and will be performing again at the MISD District Concerto competition on Monday, May 16th at Faubion Middle School.
Congratulations to all of our students for an outstanding day of music.
What a great way to start the weekend! Thanks percussion for bringing the energy and showing the McClure Marshals how it's done at Cockrill. We can't wait to see the new students that will be joining us in the band hall in the fall.
If you or your student has any questions about the Cockrill Band, the information about how to reach out to Mr. Wiechmann is on the flyer that came home with your 5th Grader.
Congratulations to our 30 All Region Students!! Wonderful work by all going through this learning process. We look forward to an excellent Region concert in our back yard, hosted at Boyd, next Saturday!
Congratulations to our 44 students, the most of any school in the district, on a great All District Audition! Next up, All Region!
