This year’s Charter Day was a powerful reminder of the impact and legacy of Howard University. The Power of Possibilities theme honored distinguished alumni across law, medicine, and beyond, including the incredible Anthony Anderson, who not only received recognition but also served as the evening’s host.

A special thank you to Microsoft for hosting me at their table—it was an honor to celebrate with fellow Howard alumni, who I call family. Howard instilled in me the values of excellence, community, and partnership, shaping me into the person I am today.

People who’ve only known me for the past 12 years or so are often shocked when they learn that I was a Systems Engineer and have degrees in Computer Science & Engineering. Before stepping into the world of global events, luxury lifestyle, and experiential marketing, I spent years in government, working alongside some of the highest levels of government officials. I had the pleasure of supporting both President Bush and President Obama directly.

With everything happening right now, my heart goes out to those in the Federal workforce who may be stressing about job security and what’s next. If I could offer any words of encouragement, it would be this: consider the possibility of pivoting. Your skills, experience, and expertise can translate into so many industries beyond what you may have imagined. Change can be intimidating, but it can also be the beginning of something incredible.

Such a pleasure of bringing my mother and Bryce with me to a private dinner with US Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, Congressman Bobby Scott, Delegate Candi Munson King, The Virginia Speaker of the House Don Scott and Senator L. Louise Lucas. Senator Lucas is the first black woman Chair of the powerful Virginia Finance and Appropriations Committee. She oversees the finances and budget for the entire state.

The dinner kicked off the important series of hearings and discussions on policies and laws regarding Black Maternal health access the country but especially Virginia. I had the honor of being a featured speaker speaking to the heart of the issue regarding maternal health.
