Last month I got to see wheat harvest again! The Martinsons were like a well-oiled machine, working hard and working together to accomplish this year's wheat harvest. It's always fascinating stepping into this world of farming, where not a lot of people truly know how much grit, determination, and faith it takes to succeed. I am always extra thankful for our farmers!
Thank you Martinson family for all your sacrifices all year long!

This is for my engaged friends! Still looking for a photographer? Did you know there are different styles of wedding photography? This is one thing to think about when shopping for a wedding photographer. Think about your style/preference and what lens you want to relive your wedding day through. What is my style? Glad you asked! I would describe my style to be a mix between Traditional and Documentary/Photojournalistic. You can see some examples below. I love just kind of being a "fly on a wall" and capturing things organically, or "as is." However, I also love those classic, timeless, posed photos too! Depending on your personality and choice, you'll get a good mix of both if I am shooting your big day! Also, who loves black and white?! 🙋🏽‍♀️ They just have such a timeless, emotional pull and helps you focus on the emotion in the photo. Therefore, it's pretty guaranteed you'll get a handful of black and white photos in your gallery as well. If any of this resonates with you, or you think, "yes! The Bohnenblust family graced my camera last night and it was so sweet and filled with laughs. James and Courtney are raising some amazing kiddos. Even with a little chaos, we always get some precious photos and they get to remember that "these are the days." ❤️

We almost called tonight off with the periodic showers today but we decided to just go for it and if we got a little rain so be it. I'm so glad we went for it, as it turned out so beautiful and the sunshine was so perfect! Thanks Baily and Quinn for exploring Dillons Nature Center some with me tonight! I've loved getting to know them through engagement photos and their wedding! Repeat clients are the best!

You never know what Kansas weather you’re going to get in March but today we hit the jackpot! An absolutely beautiful day for Chaz and Mayce to get married! It’s always so fun to see the special relationships of the bride and groom. Chaz and Mayce were surrounded by friends and family who only wanted the best for them and were there to celebrate and serve them. It was a beautiful day and I hope you guys have years of a beautiful marriage! Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Kantola!

Just engaged? Overwhelmed? Confused? Don’t know what should get done first? I remember when I first got engaged it was a little overwhelming at first. I felt like all the sudden I had a mile long to do list in front of me. I also felt confused and was on a wild goose chase. “This needed to be done but couldn’t happen til this decision was made but couldn’t decide that until this choice was made,” etc. Kind of like did the chicken or the egg come first? Haha
Here are my opinions and suggestions about what should generally be your first priorities newly engaged.
The first three things can be moved around depending on your priorities but I would try to do these three simultaneously, as quickly as possible.

1. Pick a date. This is kind of the first domino that needs to fall for everything else. And different things can affect what date you choose, so having at least 2-3 possible dates to start with helps with being flexible.
2. Budget. Try to come up with at least a ball park number. Include what you are able to pay and/or anything else your family/friends are willing to help out with.
3. Decide on venue and/or photographer. This can possibly affect your date as well. If you have a dream venue look into it and see if you can pick a date that works with it. If you have a dream photographer contact them and see if they’re available for your date(s).
4. Engagement photos and save the dates. If you want a photo on your save the dates get an engagement session on the books. Most photographers include this with their wedding packages. Depending on how long you have til the wedding day most say around 8 months before to get the save the dates out. Especially if you are deciding on a destination wedding or near a holiday/busy season.
5. Wedding dress. Some dresses can take 6+ months to be finished. If you find a sample dress, it can be ready a lot sooner usually. Better to be safe than sorry though. Also, alterations can take a chunk of time, especially if the seamstress is very busy, or you need extensive alterations.

These are probably my top priorities needing to get done once there is a new ring on my finger. These can look different for different people, different situations, but in general these will get you off on the right foot! And you will feel so accomplished once these few (big) things are checked off your list!

This is for my rural, farming friends.
I have an idea I’m working on. As I married into a family who did a lot of farming I got to see firsthand a lot of the blood, sweat, and tears people always talked about that goes into farming. I’ve always respected what farmers do but I got a good view on it the last 7 years or so. Spending time out at my in-law’s farm brought a new appreciation and special memories, including early relationship memories with my boyfriend/fiancé/now husband. :) I started taking my camera out to the farm often just to try to freeze some memories and help me remember that special time. I got to capture several harvests, field suppers, relationship building, problem solving, and God’s handiwork in nature. Andrew even videoed some harvests on his drone for his parents. Recently I’ve had some creativity spark, and also saw an example from another photographer about doing “farming lifestyle” sessions, where I’d come out for an hour or two and just capture these rural families in their natural lifestyle, kind of documentary style. Not a ton of posing, except maybe a few family photos, etc. Just photos so you can remember and pass on generational knowledge and memories. I know a lot of farming is generational farming and I would love to capture these moments that seem to be gone in an instant. With the new year I’ll give one of these sessions at half off, to the first person to book with me, and to use at any time in 2024. Message me if this sounds like something you’d love to have done! You pay for a lot more than just 30-60 min of shooting. There is the whole booking/communication process, session time, editing, post-communicating, etc. plus many more “unseen” things. So next time you’re photographer shopping don’t just look for someone who “doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.”

The Beckers have wanted family photos in the snow for a while, so we've had our fingers crossed that we would get at least one good snow this winter, and boy, did we get it! Last minute messaging and it worked out! It was a fun change from my usual! Belle and Brooke worked with me and we got some precious snapshots. Thanks Becker family!

Up next is the Hainline family! We took family pictures when Asher was about Jake's age a couple years ago so they needed updated photos! I got to chase these two around tonight! Two rambunctious boys is a little different than our 2 girls. Both have their challenges though! But it's always a fun challenge when photographing families with littles. And of course can't forget your fur-babies! Please bring them too! :) Thanks Hainlines!

We're getting to the weird in between when some trees already lost all their leaves, some trees are bright, bold colors, and some trees are still green. 🤦🏽‍♀️ And this is the reason I tell people it's a roll of the dice when planning fall pictures around the trees. haha
The Frantz girls kept me on my toes tonight! But it was pretty much a parallel to our own two girls, so it was all natural to me!

Even with the dreary, cold, rainy day yesterday, Trey and Zoe had smiles on all day and lots of laughter with their close friends and family. They love their people and their people love them! I loved their theme/colors! So fun and cheery! Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Moddelmog! You did it!

We didn't blow away! The Lulloff ladies battled the wind the entire evening but I told them it would be worth it! Look at this good-looking bunch! Never a dull moment around the Lulloffs. Besides the wind though, it was a beautiful evening and a gorgeous sunset! I am plugging through sessions and loving all these unique, lovely families and clients!

We had a stunner senior tonight! The second Hendricks I've gotten to take senior pictures of and she did great! Renae is thinking of going to KU next year (ROCK CHALK!) to get an education degree and marching in the band - check out those tenor drums! I've been heavy on family sessions lately - which I love! This lively bunch did great tonight! This crazy wind couldn't stop us! I had the privilege of doing an extended family session of 6 generations this morning! This was my biggest session yet, and 40+ people isn't a piece of cake but we got it done! Rita and Dean have been blessed with beautiful kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids! They have a beautiful farmhouse, property, and have a big operation with cattle, horses, chicken, and farm lots of different grains. Patterson family, it was a joy!
