New(ish) Year: 2020

New email address: [email protected]

New website address: www.sixthst.net

New news: This will be our twentieth year hosting regular house concerts and at the moment, probably our last: I think we've made our point.
But, everything is negotiable: we're not going to turn down golden one-off concert hosting opportunities in the future, and we might just change our mind, so never say never.

New shows: We wanted to make our (possible) last year a special one and so far, so good. Except for, you know, the thing everyone is talking about. So we'll be keeping an eye on things, and maybe plans will change. In the meantime, drop us a line if you want us to save you a spot, but at least please pencil these dates into your diaries

Nancy was an amazing singer/songwriter and an even better person. She was a big supporter when we started our house concerts and we miss her. We're sending our love to Frankie and Hannah.

In 2004, McBride, a native of Margate, moved to Ireland, where she carried on her music career while also creating jewelry and artworks from sea glass she scavenged at the beach.

Here are five good reasons - in no particular order - that you should come see Pierce Pettis this Saturday night:

1. His new album, Father's Son, is really rather stunning - his best yet! We've been playing it so much. Here, take a listen:
https://open.spotify.com/album/3IfhZ0pv2y7ECac3NlTIWG

2. Back when we were transatlanticly dating, we traded wooing mixtapes back and forth (because we are that old). Pierce's "Grandmother's Song" was on there and helped seal the deal.

3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzL-_0dc40Q

4. Pierce's songs have been recorded by artists including Susan Ashton, Dar Williams, Garth Brooks, and Art Garfunkel so you know he is one of the greats.

[SixthSt] coming in May - The return of Pierce Pettis https://mailchi.mp/f77617843b43/pierce-pettis

Pierce is 0.925% responsible for us getting married. His new album "Father's Son" is wonderful and we are so happy he is making his third trip to our house with his amazing songs. It would mean an awful lot if you joined us.

Pierce Pettis, adored by critics and public alike, is one of this generation’s most masterful songwriters. Beautiful melodies, strong guitar work, and rich vocals are a constant throughout his body of work.

Pat Dinizio - the heart and soul of The Smithereens - died yesterday. He played at our house about 15 years ago. It was a financial stretch for us the time, but I'm really glad we did it.

I remember the hustles he was working on... him being proud of his daughter and on keeping his rent controlled apartment in NYC... and the drunk guy who tried to join in the show by playing the piano (he could not play the piano).

Anybody who writes cool Buddy Holly-related songs like this is a gem in my ears. I heard the song for the first time at our house concert - it's one of those rare tunes that you only need to hear once and your remember it forever. Cheers, Pat!

A really beautiful song from the '11' album. I do not own the rights to this.

MARIAN CALL
Sunday, October 15th, 2017 - 7pm
Suggested Donation: $10-15 or more

We have been known to be on the geeky side of things from time to time, so we're delighted Marian is coming back to SixthSt. If you liked our Paul and Storm, Sean Altman, Deirdre Flint or Carla Ulbrich shows, then this is an especially good show for you

Marian Call does things a little differently. Her trusty typewriter is always at her side, her songs are all about spaceships, avocados, and Windows Vista, and she makes her home in Alaska. Call’s music has been described by fans as “funky acoustic joy jazz” — her eclectic, humorous and heartfelt songs reach across all ages and demographics.

Come see The Sea The Sea on Satur-dee!

My favorite new band, The Sea The Sea, is dropping by our house on Saturday to play a show. Although we only have a few spaces left we'd still like to fill the place. This, my friend, is where you come in.

People often ask our favorite part of hosting house concerts. There are so many wonderful things but it's hard to beat introducing people to new music. You wouldn't be on this page if you didn't have great taste, so please take a moment to see if these videos whet your appetite:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXGKvUm9lZc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgxecEgY5xY

This show would be particularly great if you liked our Every Set, Don Dixon/Marty Jones, Nancy Falkow or Beth Amsel shows. Or if you appreciate good harmonies in general. I think this band has the potential to become so much bigger than they are right now.

But, in the meantime, they're playing in our front room this Saturday night at 8pm! Please join us. As always, we promise an unparalleled evening of intimate musical goodness.

Most everything you need to know should be on our website - if we forgot anything just ask.

We have a couple of great house concerts for you this fall (and we might have one more if the stars align). Please come out and join us for some of the best music you'll hear anywhere:

My favorite new band:
THE SEA THE SEA
Saturday, September 23rd, 2017 - 8pm
Suggested Donation: $20 or more

I can’t tell you how happy we are The Sea The Sea agreed to come play at our house. This is going to be a truly magical evening of sublime melodies, caramel harmonies and all around good times – we’d love for you to be here. You will especially enjoy it if you loved our Everly Set; Ben Vaughn; Clive Gregson or Ben Kyle shows.

Maybe you’ve already familiar with their great music – perhaps you’ve already seen them, or heard them on Mountain Stage or NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert. If you have then you’re probably already checking your calendar. If not, it can be hard to persuade people to see new music but these are people well worth taking a chance on so please let us know what we can do to tempt you out.
