This historic stage door at Bent's, built in 1865, carries substantial importance as it functioned as a meeting place for people on the streets in front of Bent's, allowing them to hear a speaker addressing the audience from the balcony located just outside this door.
Today, it provides a picturesque backdrop for cherished memories that will last for generations to come.

In an age before highways and planes, mules were the “engines” of the boats that traveled along the canal waterway, hauling goods and people.
1880 moving goods by the canal route reached its peak.
Mules were suited to pull boats along the canal because of their strength, intelligence, and easy-going temperament.
What is a mule?
Crossing a female horse (a mare) with a male donkey (a jack) produces a mule.

Roger Hungerford had this sculpture made to honor the historical importance of the Erie Canal.

Many historic buildings have been the site of paranormal occurrences, and here are a few places in Bent's where you could potentially encounter one.

"Working at Bent's over the years, I've had a few interactions with our resident ghost Franklin. He's messed with the lights, electrical and even whistled at me once. I always make sure to say hi to Franklin when I'm in the Opera house!"
