Now that summer has officially begun for Melissa Theatre, we couldn’t miss the chance to look back one more time at our recent journey with Hadestown.

Due to UIL date changes, the show was rescheduled to take place entirely after summer break had already begun. These students returned on their own time, built the entire set in a single day, completed just one day of tech, and launched straight into performances. Their fingerprints were all over this production, which was largely student-designed and choreographed. Their dedication, resilience, and love for theatre made it all possible.

There aren’t enough words to express our gratitude to the students, parents, and teachers who helped make this show a reality. ❤️🌹

Earlier this week Melissa Theatre returned from an unforgettable trip to New York City!

Over the course of the week, we saw six incredible shows: Stranger Things: The First Shadow, Death Becomes Her, Maybe Happy Ending, Boop!, Sunset Blvd, and Gypsy. We also participated in acting, vocal, and dance workshops led by cast members from Death Becomes Her, Sunset Blvd, and Gypsy.

We explored the city from top to bottom, visiting Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial, The Edge observatory, and so much more. Altogether, we walked over 36 miles, visited countless neighborhoods, and made memories we’ll never forget.

And just when we thought it was all over, we got to make even MORE memories when our flight was canceled leaving us stuck in the city for two more days! Even with the unexpected travel hiccups, it was an inspiring and rewarding trip that reminded us all the reasons we love theatre and our Melissa Theatre family! ❤️🌃🍎
