That’s our Bailey!!! 🤩🎉
Wish all the broken legs to Bailey Thornburg as she completes her final adjudication for Broadway Dallas HSMTA Outstanding Leading Performer! She blew us all away with her dynamic portrayal of Helen Sinclair in Bullets Over Broadway. We have no doubt she is bringing the house down again tonight for those judges! We love you, Bailey!!! 🎉✨
We have exciting news from Austin TX! We placed 5th overall in our first trip to State as a 5A school!!! Our division began with 267 schools, and to finish in the top five is an unbelievable honor. We could not be more proud of these students and our show!!!
In addition, we received the following individual awards:

This morning when we arrived for critiques, we learned even MORE great news! Our points from One Act Play, combined with the amazing efforts of our film department, led us to finish as 3rd place overall 5A theatre team!

We are on the road to STATE!!!! This has already been an amazing week. First we got to have a Zoom call with our incredible and inspirational playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer. We got to ask him all our questions and also play some of our original show music for him.
Speaking of original music, we got to honor our OAP musicians, the Stinky Bottom Band, with our new travel shirts!
This morning we finally made good on our promise to throw the cast a Coke Zero and toast party (if you know you know). Then our parents, the band, and cheerleaders gave us a fantastic send off!!
Now we get to enjoy our road trip down to ATX and an evening of great theatre at the 4A shows.
Then tomorrow, we take the stage!!! We are the 7th show of the day and will perform at approximately 8:10 p.m. at the Austin ISD PAC. We can’t wait to share this beautiful show at STATE!!!
Auditions are coming up for our 2024 - 2025 Production Classes, Fall Musical, and Winter Play!

The Blackbox Company will take the stage at 7 p.m. with “The Women of Lockerbie” by Deborah Brevoort. The Mainstage Company will follow with our State Qualifying production of “This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing” by Finegan Kruckemeyer.
This is your chance to show our hard working students some love before we head to Austin next week for the State OAP competition! Admission is free for both shows, so let’s !!!
Our musical theatre classes will present the 6th annual Cardinal Cabaret and Spring Showcase tonight, Wednesday, May 8 at the Melissa Arts Center, featuring an evening of group numbers and solos. This year the night will be broken into two groups: Cardinal Cabaret with the Musical Theatre classes starting at 6:00 p.m. and the Spring Showcase with the Advanced Musical Theatre class starting at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free. We hope to see you there!
Yesterday our Blackbox Company competed in our 3rd annual JV OAP competition! These incredible students received the title of 1st Runner Up with The Women of Lockerbie!

Melissa Theatre proudly presents our 2024 Mainstage UIL One Act Play, “This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing” by Finegan Kruckemeyer.
Join us as we tell the story of triplet sisters, who are left in the forest by their woodcutter father. From this fairytale beginning, three resolutions are made – one sister will walk one way, one the other, and the third will stay right where she is. This beautiful tale celebrates bravery, the search for purpose, and the unbreakable bond of family.
Our District performance is this Saturday, March 2 at the Melissa Arts Center. Shows begin at 10:00am and run back to back. We hope to see you there!

Melissa Theatre in NYC - Day Two! 🍎🗽🎭 Today was another day packed with adventure! We started the day off with a Moulin Rouge workshop led by Broadway cast member Clay Rice Thomson. The students had a blast learning vocals and choreography from the show! Then we had NY bagels for lunch, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, paid our respects at the 9/11 Memorial, had dinner at Ellen’s Stardust Diner, and finished out the day seeing Lea Michele in “Funny Girl”! #melissatheatre
