Well, it’s the end of one era AKA “chapter “ and the beginning of a NEW chapter for Rachel‘s Flower shop. The building was sold and we will now be operating at another location in a somewhat smaller capacity. ( so we aren’t done !❤️) No we won’t have storefront but will have a private studio !!
Needless to say this change is emotional , scary and exciting ! I’ve grown up in a family business that’s been in Memphis for over 60 years and considered (in my mind )a real staple in the Memphis area ….but the next chapter is even better !
My grandparents built a business / legacy in Memphis that connected the community and many relationships over the years . I am fortunate to be a part of that. They built some thing that would allow my mother to grow the business and support her through life. She has given everything to the flower shop and worked so hard over the years, making the connections with people, learning what the different families like in their flowers, learning who the families are , who their cousins are or who their dad is etc. She knows more of that information than anybody I’ve ever met.
She has embraced her community and continues to do so every day.
These qualities were certainly instilled by my grandparents and for that I will be forever grateful.
Its been a wild journey with many special people and there are so many fond memories from people in my childhood ( and my mothers childhood ) who spent many hours at the flower shop , many holidays helping at the shop , delivering flowers ,filling water picks and the list could go on. I’m so thankful for the experience of being at that flower shop and growing up in a family business and learning so much over the years.
I spent nearly every day in my younger years after school at the flower shop “Working “ and always looking forward to going home after work with my grandmother ( who live next-door to my mother )to see what she was gonna cook for dinner or where she was gonna take me to go shopping or what we were gonna do after work.
The stories are endless. The experiences are endless and the memories will last forever.
I’ll end with this ….I can say is there are not many people( except a few childhood friends ) that I know that could say that they have been picked up from school in a big white delivery van with a humongous pink bow on the top by a flower delivery driver. Each day was always a guessing game and never knew who was going to pick me up from school, but I always knew would be someone from the shop because that’s where we spent all of our time.
