Raisin was abandoned at our doors earlier this week.

Despite their method, we know that person wanted a good life for her, and saw PAWS as her chance at that life. Thankfully, we had an open room for Raisin that day, but her story is far too common.

Since last year, we’ve seen a surge in homeless and abandoned pets, and for the first time in years, euthanasia rates at animal control increased - by 22.7%

We stepped up our intake efforts in response, taking 2,325 pets from Chicago Animal Care and Control in 2023, 695 more pets than we had the year before.

If we hadn’t, euthanasia would have increased by 50.6%.

The surge hasn’t slowed down, and we’re going to keep pulling as many pets from CACC as we can. We’re also implementing new programs to keep pets from entering CACC in the first place, and helping the pets already at CACC get ready for adoption.

We need your help to do all this. Donating to the Chicago Animal Crisis Fund will not only help fund these efforts, but the first $25,000 in donations will be MATCHED thanks to the Ehlert Family Foundation!
