Let’s face it, life moves fast, we want to hit pause but we can’t. Our only pause button is the photos and videos that we take or have taken for us. You will forever cherish every single photo at some point in your journey through this beautiful life. Trust me…as a seasoned veteran in photography and general life (married for almost 15 years, 2 kids, running a business for 20 years, fitness instructor for 11 years, loss of close family members, dog owner and lose of dogs, and on it goes.

Here are my top 2 reasons for why I offer these sessions as part of every package for my wedding couples. ⬇️
1). It’s a perfect date night! (with a super fun third wheel 😅)
It’s a very special and sweet time for just the two of you to be playful together and share tender moments all while getting them captured in a beautiful location that speaks to your personalities!! And it's a different backdrop than your wedding venue.
I always tell my couples that the top priority for these shoots is to have a blast! And then make dinner reservations, kindly break up with your third wheel😉, and enjoy a great evening, hopefully reflecting on how much fun you had, and that it was way easier to be in front of the camera than you thought!
2). It gives you a chance to get to know your photographer better and how they will guide you through poses before your big day!
This is such an important piece. While engagement sessions are not a requirement to have a successful and fun time on your wedding day, it helps more than you know! When I show up to my couple’s weddings I want them to instantly feel comfortable with me, give hugs, and dive right into all the excitement and beautiful emotions ❤️ I don’t want you thinking about my camera or how you are going to act in front of me for your whole day! I want to capture your love, connection, and personality. Doing an engagement session will create that easy and make you feel like you hired a good friend who to photograph your wedding who just happens to be really good with a camera 😉

Yes, yes, I said Spring! We all know that Fall is the golden child of family/senior/wedding/you name it photography. Trust me, I get it! Hard to compete with those dreamy Fall colors.
But let me tell you, the Spring can be and is just as magical in it's own way! All the new life growing on the trees, blossoms filling the air and gracing our eyes with their gorgeous color, and the light has an extra special way of showing up and making everything sparkle ✨ Plus, often times, there is more time on your schedule and mine to make the date/times work. Congrats to Shelli & Beau who got married this past weekend on the most gorgeous Fall day at the McCall Golf Course!
Shelli gave me a call just a month before their wedding to see if I was available. If you know weddings they are typically planned out for months sometimes over a year in advance. And if you’re in the wedding industry you know the Fall is extra busy and often times the availability is slim for vendors.
But after just a short talk and actually having the date open, I had such a good feeling about this wedding. With very little time to plan, you would have never known, because their day was beautifully pull together by many hands who love this couple. And after a short time spent with them I knew why they were so very loved!!

Getting ready for a wedding this weekend at this sweet little place
But first, a recap on this week thus far…
*Celebrated another anniversary with my hubby on Monday #14
Because we got married in the middle of wedding season normally we either don’t get to celebrate the day of because I’m working a wedding or traveling, so this time we just traveled together in the car and smiled at each other because at least we were together ❤️ ✅
*reunited with our boys after being away from them for almost 2 weeks. They got to play and make memories with their cousins on an epic adventure!! I loved that they had this opportunity 💓 but man oh man we sure missed them deeply! ✅
*driving back from Washington and prepping for a family photo session tonight ✅
*sweating in the heat heat heat, wondering how I can build a portable AC unit that could blast at me and all my clients at the same time (it’s a work in progress, frozen wash clothes for now) ✅

These two have a special little place in my heart! Not only did I get to be with them and capture yesterday for their wedding celebration, but I had the privilege of meeting them and photographing their elopement in 2020. We all know what happened way back then 🫠. They had plans (like so many other couples) to have their big wedding back when the world shut down. So they decided they didn't want to wait on marriage and did an elopement. I loved every minute with them!!
When they contacted me about coming again to capture their love, this time surrounded by their closest family and friends, of course I said yaaassss!!
It was a stunning day! So much so, I will be doing a two part (maybe more) on this one. I wanted to focus on Nancy & Brian for this post, but man, their details and design by were drool worthy.
We had such a fun time creating moments & images with the gorgeous backdrop of in Boise! If you haven't been, I say go as soon as you can. It's one of the most unique and special places in this Valley. And for a photographer, there is never enough time to capture it all 😉

Yep, these two have so many amazing aspects to who they are individually and together that I can't sum it up into one post! Nor can I even come close to posting all the photos I want to from their gorgeous, unique forest backdrop wedding from this past weekend! I will be making multiple post on this wedding!!
A huge congratulations to Kaeli & Carter on tying the knot...literally, not only in ceremony and vows, but in tying slip knots in your rock climbing rope together. It was all so special, beautiful, and touched by Wes Anderson ;) If you haven't heard of Wes Anderson, he's an incredibly unique American film maker that laces each of his movies with tons of character including vintage details, styled spacing, and themed emotion. These two & their crew brought this all to the table on this special day! It was a joy to capture this unique style also mixed in with my favorite emotions that are shared with a couple on their wedding day ❤️
There was no shortage of creativity, passionate love, laughter, heartfelt vows & toasts, the perfect attire, props we could have used for days, friendship, family, and everything in between!!
So happy for these two and I feel incredibly honored I got to share this day with them and those they love most!

How about this Spring weather! It's got me super excited about upcoming weddings and hopefully more sunshine and warmth than we have had in quite some time!
Although, I know better than to get too excited too soon... I will not be packing up my coat yet, but still dreaming of long warm summer nights with all the magical golden light!

Golden hour photos will always have my heart! I think I can speak for every photographer of all time. But there are also a lot of us photographers who enjoy some full sun magic. On your wedding day, you are going to encounter every element of light. Not to mention weather. You can't predict any of it. So embracing it is the very next best plan!
Trust your photographer. They will know what to do in all lighting situations. If they are experienced. If they have the confidence. They will find a way. Look for that in your photographer. Make sure they understand this and know that golden hour is not the only hour in your day. You have a full day of hours with so many beautiful moments that will fill them. Get them all captured beautifully!! ❤️

Who's with me?
I do love a good snow fall, all the beauty of a white blanket of snow, and the joy it brings to those who ski or snowboard. I sled and walk my dog😅. I really should start a winter sport so it doesn't feel quite so long. At the same time I love my sweatshirts and bundling up in blankets, and I don't like giving those up all summer. I just really miss the sun that makes my skin feel warm and allows me to get some true Vitamin Deeeeee!!!
Of course I'll start complaining about summer once we've had too many 90+ degree days in a row 😁 A girl can have her cake and eat it too, right??! The struggle is real.
I will work on changing my mindset over the next couple months, 'cause let's be honest "winter/spring" will take us up until at least mid May. We got this!!!

Oh boy, this quote. It's what I've spent pretty much all day teaching my oldest son about. I won't go into details, except he struggled with massive attitude during an amazing opportunity to learn from someone else. To bite your tongue as both a parent and adult when this is happening right before your eyes...is beyond anything you can describe until you experience it.
We all need someone in our lives, no matter who that person is, of course you hope it could be a parent, but if not, someone! Someone who will be willing to teach you that the best version of yourself doesn't show up (or at least isn't formed) when all is amazing....it's exactly the opposite. It's in God's word. Even if you don't believe in God, the advice is there and it's steadfast and true. Adversity is actually one of our greatest blessings.
Find someone who sees the light in you no matter what, but most especially trials and tribulations. Find ways to support each other, love each other, embrace each other, encourage each other....those are the times you'll see a diamond coming out of the rough.

There was a fluffy blanket of snow for miles, the sun was brightly shining down on us, there was no wind…pretty much perfection!
It was as a joy capturing these two for their very intimate wedding shared with their closest of family & friends. Congrats Katie & Ryan!!!
This is your friendly reminder that....photography should be FUN!!!
Yes, the technical details, the posed photos that make you feel like magazine worthy rock stars, and the traditional shots for your parents & grandparents (and yourself too!) all matter. But you most definitely should feel like it's a total blast along the way, and also get those moments captured that show you having the time of your life!! Whether it's on your wedding day, your engagement session, family session, you name it, find that photographer who will make it fun!!
You could be on top of a mountain, in a field dancing, twirling in your wedding dress, cuddling on an antique couch, blowing wishes into the wind with your love, or be surrounded by your besties, or even holding smoke bombs....it doesn't matter what it is, embrace every smile and endorphin that makes you feel all the joy!!

Hard times produce strength. They produce a new perspective. They produce thankfulness for the little things. But the award truly goes to my couples....THEY are the ones that make this all work. They trust in me to capture one of their most important, memorable, and timeless events in their lives. I could say I have the best couples in the world, but everyone says that. What I DO have is the very best, most life giving couples for ME!!!!
