On October 21, 1977, Meat Loaf released “Bat Out of Hell”

Produced by Todd Rundgren and written by Jim Steinman, the album blended theatrical storytelling with bombastic rock arrangements. Featuring iconic tracks like “Paradise by the Dashboard Light,” “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad,” and the title track, it went on to become one of the best-selling albums of all time.

A truly sad day in rock and roll history.

49 years ago today, October 20, 1977, a chartered plane carrying Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd crashed in a heavily wooded swamp near Gillsburg, Mississippi, killing six people.

The band was flying from a concert in Greenville, South Carolina, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, when the Convair CV-240 ran out of fuel. Lead singer and songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, 29, guitarist Steve Gaines, 28, and his sister, backup singer Cassie Gaines, 29, were killed, along with assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick and both pilots. The other 20 people on board survived, many with serious injuries.

Just three days earlier, the band had released the album "Street Survivors," whose cover showed the group surrounded by flames. MCA Records quickly replaced it with a new cover out of respect for the victims.

Known for classics like "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird," Lynyrd Skynyrd reunited in 1987 with Ronnie's younger brother Johnny Van Zant on vocals and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

One kick ass rock anthem!!

On October 19, 1981, Journey released “Don’t Stop Believin'”

Featured on the band’s album Escape, the song became one of Journey’s most recognizable hits, driven by its iconic opening piano riff and Steve Perry’s powerful vocals. Although it initially peaked at No. 9 on the US Billboard Hot 100, it went on to achieve legendary status, becoming one of the most enduring rock anthems of all time.

Remembering the legendary Ace Frehley, who passed away one year ago today, October 16, 2025. As the original lead guitarist and iconic Spaceman of KISS, Ace helped shape the sound of rock and roll with his unforgettable guitar riffs and electrifying performances. His music and influence continue to live on. Rest in peace, Ace Frehley. April 27, 1951 – October 16, 2025.

Back in 1966, a young guitarist from Swindon joined The Moody Blues and helped shape the sound of a generation. From "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon" to "Question," "The Story in Your Eyes," and "Your Wildest Dreams," his songs have been the soundtrack to so many lives, loves, and long drives home.

Six decades on, the music still shines just as bright.

Happy 67th Marie!!

Happy 67th Birthday to Marie Osmond, born October 13, 1959, in Ogden, Utah!

Marie grew up in one of the most famous musical families in America, but she certainly made a name for herself. She was just 13 when she released "Paper Roses" in 1973, taking the song all the way to No. 1 on the country charts. That little girl with the big voice was on her way to a remarkable career.

Of course, many of us remember her best alongside her brother Donny on "Donny & Marie," which premiered in 1976. Every week, we tuned in for the singing, dancing, comedy, and their playful brother-and-sister teasing. Who could forget their famous "little bit country, little bit rock 'n' roll" routine? They really were a big part of television in the 1970s.

Marie continued making music long after the variety show ended. In the 1980s, she returned to the top of the country charts with "There's No Stopping Your Heart" and her duet with Dan Seals, "Meet Me in Montana." She also found success as an actress, author, television host, and performer. She and Donny even enjoyed an 11-year residency in Las Vegas, wrapping up in 2019.

One thing I especially admire about Marie is her work away from the spotlight. In 1983, she helped establish Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, an organization that has raised billions of dollars to help sick and injured children. She has also spoken openly about postpartum depression, hoping to help other mothers facing the same struggles.

Today, Marie remains active in entertainment and charitable work. Her 2021 album "Unexpected" showed another side of her voice, featuring Broadway favorites, classical music, and songs recorded with a symphony orchestra. She continues to perform, make appearances, and support children's hospitals. She's also a proud mother of eight and enjoys spending time with her growing family.

After more than six decades in entertainment, Marie Osmond has given us plenty of wonderful memories. From "Paper Roses" to those Saturday nights watching "Donny & Marie," she's certainly earned her place in television and music history.
