Graduada de Químico Farmacéutica y Bióloga en la Universidad Iberoamericana de México. Al morir su madre, Silvia Lacayo Navarro abandona la profesión para dedicarse al negocio familiar: vestir a las novias. Transcurría una mañana como cualquier otra en la casa de doña Chepita Navarro, madre de Silvia Lacayo Navarro, cuando en un descuido encuentran a la pequeña Silvia —con apenas cinco años de edad— intentando tragarse las perlas de fantasía que adornarían un vestido de novia. Así Silvia Lacayo Navarro comienza su vida, entre agujas, hilos, perlas y encajes. La familia Lacayo Navarro, como muchas otras, tienen su historia.Cuenta que decide viajar a México para estudiar Químico Farmacéutico y buscar nuevos horizontes que le permitieran defenderse en la vida.
“Lo que me lleva a estudiar esta carrera fue la oportunidad que se me presentó en ese momento, pero no es que hubiera una afinidad fuerte hacia ella. Yo tenía buenas calificaciones en el área de física, química, matemática y a decir verdad mi papá influyó en la decisión”, cuenta Lacayo. Regresa a Nicaragua graduada de Químico-Farmacéutico en el año 1969, y se casa con el señor Manuel Gutiérrez González, de origen español, quien dice le brindó mucha comprensión y apoyo para continuar su carrera. “Me llevé una decepción al venir a mi patria, porque todas las puertas que tocaba se cerraban ante mí, y la última puerta que toqué, fue la del Seguro Social, y en aquella época la persona que me atendió al ver mi currículo me expresó que no podían darme trabajo, dado que era una amenaza para muchos jefes”, afirma apesarada. Esas circunstancias la obligaron a perseverar y ser regente en la farmacia Valle, la cual desapareció con el terremoto de 1972. Ese acontecimiento obliga a doña Chepita Navarro a trasladar el negocio a Ciudad Jardín —donde aún permanece— con el nombre de “La Casa de la Novia”, a partir de ese momento comparte su vida profesional con la tienda de su madre, apoyándola incondicionalmente hasta su muerte. Como toda profesional de la ciencia, patenta la fabricación y comercialización en el Ministerio de Hacienda y Crédito Público con el nombre de “La Casa de la Novia”.
“Este nombre es exclusivo de la familia Lacayo Navarro, no seremos los únicos en hacer vestidos para novias, pero la calidad en el servicio y la confianza que brindamos a nuestros clientes, si nos da ese derecho”, dice. La Casa de la Novia tiene 48 años de existencia. “Desde la administración de mi madre hasta la mía han desfilado tantas personas ilusionadas con su ajuar de novia que es maravilloso compartir ese momento con ellas”. Los años ochenta fueron muy difíciles para muchos comerciantes y doña Silvia Navarro no fue la excepción, recuerda que tuvo que inscribirse en la “Asociación de Buhoneros” para poder viajar a Panamá, llevando y trayendo mercadería y poder justificar la entrada de mercancía a su negocio.
“Las químicas que yo hago en mi taller no serán de ácido sulfúrico, pero todo es una mezcla, entre la pedrería, la chalina y la organza, la química sigue funcionando igual”, concluye la confidente de las novias.
