It was 2013, I was djing for a little less than 3 yrs now & I had finally saved up enough to buy the mixer & turntables I wanted so badly. Before I began djing I was so fascinated by scratch DJ’s. So when I got the right equipment, I started watching YouTube scratch tutorials from legends like @djangelouk, @djshiftee & more. I would spend DAYS just trying to learn the simplest scratch.

I’ve said it before & I’m gonna say it again, I’m not the best at scratching, nor do I claim to be. But, I found this #throwback at the PERFECT time because, from my IG Live’s, I’ve been getting quite a few DJ’s asking me how to learn to scratch & other questions in that nature. The YouTube & other tutorials were helping me a LOT, but for me, the greatest help I ever got was from my mentors. And I was so grateful to them for the amount of time & advice they shared with the kid. Idk if times are different or what, but I don’t see that anymore. And It’s sad because, I definitely would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for those mentorships.

With that said, I also had a hunger to just learn any skill & pay my dues, which I still am, even to this day. I even started to MC during my Live’s🤦🏽♂️🤣 “Everyone wants to be at the top, but no one’s willing to work for it!” It’s a cliché saying, but it’s so true. Along with the guidance from others, you have to be willing to put in the work & COUNTLESS hours of practice with the reality that, even if you do learn those skills, you don’t know where it’s gonna take you.

To close off, I’ve been getting a lot of messages of just positivity & wanted to thank you guys for that, it helps. I believe I messaged back most of the dj questions, but I will try to get to all. I mentioned that those mentorships are worth more than gold to me, so I’d be a hypocrite if I weren’t willing to pay it forward
