Santamary Florist is a FULL service independent Florist located in Middlefield Ohio, family owned and operated for over 60 years, third generation.
Here is our story: I am a Florist and it begins: My grandfather Leon Santamary Sr. started in Parma, Ohio on the corner of Stumph and Pearl Road, from the 20's through the early 70's, he moved his flower shop and greenhouses in the early 70's to Lancaster PA. until his passing in the mid 70's. In Parma he mainly grew Orchids and Roses and sold corsages on the main Holidays of Easter and Mother's Day to the "High Society" ladies, and did weddings for the elite families in the surrounding areas, he also rented and sold his Orchid plants to the Cleveland Museum of Art for their art shows. My father (Leon Santamary Jr.) met and married my mother in the early 50's, they then moved to a little town called Parkman, Ohio which is smack dab in the middle between Cleveland and Youngstown, Ohio on State Route 422. The house used to be a stagecoach stop between the two cities. They opened up a small Flower Shop on their front porch which they enclosed. My father was also the Curator of the Fine Art Gardens at the Cleveland Museum of Art for many years retiring in the mid 80's. When the Art Museum tore down their glass greenhouses in the 60's and put up the new improved Fiberglass greenhouses, my father moved glass pane, by glass pane, the greenhouses, from Cleveland to Parkman, and expanded the flower shop off of the back of our house, we now have one acre under glass, a Pole Building plus a Shade House (in the summer for our annuals). I started working in the greenhouses when I was around four years old. Planting and starting from seedlings, Geraniums, Tomato and Pepper plants, Petunias etc. I also worked in the flower shop when I was older, wiring and taping leaves and Stephanotis for corsages, though I enjoyed working in the greenhouses more than in the store. I made my first sale at the age of eight, I sold a pack of tomatoes to a lady, I also serviced my first wedding by myself at the age of twelve!! My father then purchased a building in Middlefield, Ohio in 1989 also halfway between Cleveland and Youngstown, Ohio on State Route 87. I have been managing this store since. We are a full service family run Florist with two locations. We do weddings, funerals, plus everyday occasions. We sell Fruit Baskets, Planters, Arrangements, Corsages and the list goes on and on...We deliver to Parkman, Middlefield, Burton, Huntsburg, Newbury, and Hiram, Ohio.
