We have retired from catering!
In 1984 we opened Court Square Cafe in Centreville. We loved our little restaurant! We began catering at the request of our clients and soon realized that the excitement and challenge of off-premise catering was our true passion.
We sold the restaurant in 1986 and opened up shop in Chestertown, working out of a storefront on Cross Street. Soon we outgrew that space and shifted the operation to Sudlersville, eventually building a commercial kitchen on the family farm.
We’ve lost count of the number of events we’ve catered but haven’t forgotten one of them.
There were a few near-disasters, we were sometimes serene on the surface and paddling like crazy underwater to make it all work - but we did - every time. And that is because of our amazingly awesome staff. We hired a lot of people, hundreds over the years. Some worked for a night. Some worked for a decade, or two, or three. They were absolutely the best group of people you could ever hope to have backing you up on a hot July Saturday afternoon when they really could have been elsewhere.
THANK YOU and much love always to ALL our staff!
As off-premise caterers, almost every event we’ve catered has been built from scratch. We’ve been lucky to work with so many talented local vendors. Wonderful rental companies who assembled ballrooms and field kitchens, designed lighting and dance floors, who nimbly switched from plan A to plan B and sometimes plan C. Inspired event planners, creative florists, energetic photographers, serene officiants, patient hosts/innkeepers, we miss you guys!
THANK YOU to all our friendors!!
Catering is not like any other profession - every night is opening night; you are only as good as your last event. Up to the end we never repeated ourselves, which made each event an invigorating experience for us, and a meaningful rite of passage for our customers.
And such wonderful and loyal customers we’ve had! Our very first events were formal dinner parties where we learned so much from the elegant local ladies who had ALL the silver and crystal and china. How we delighted in their butler’s pantries! The finger bowls and salt cellars and dear little salt spoons. The buzzer in the dining room floor just by the hostess’ foot.
And so many brides with fresh requests- Sure! we can make Paad Thai/Risotto/Tiramisu/Appletinis, Cosmos, Mojitos by the gallon! Each season brought exciting new food trends and style visions to research and develop.
THANK YOU to all our clients, we are so grateful to have met you and to have worked with you!
We have hung up our aprons and turned off the ovens. We’re converting the commercial kitchen to a painting studio and moving on to new challenges.
