I spent some time today walking around the mall and feeling so frustrated by the lack of unique things. I can’t imagine trying to find a meaningful Christmas gift there. You too? I have the solution. We added 25 more peonies yesterday. Was supposed to be 50 but the supplier canceled that part of my order. Although, they did send an updated availability sheet the other day with remaining stock at a discount…..I do love a good sale! What color do you think I should add? What’s your favorite?

Everyone feeling that after Thanksgiving food coma today? I was responsible for dessert for a few family get togethers and I went the traditional Thanksgiving pie route…I’m kinda wishing that I had done cake..it’s much better leftover 😆

Mixed up the last batch of scrapple today! I think we totaled 78 pans!

Scrapple is made by cooking all the bones and making a broth, then picking any meat off the bones and combining it all with cornmeal and buckwheat flour. You cook it until thick and then pour it in pans to solidify. Slice and fry it for breakfast! It’s one of our favorites. We like it with maple syrup best. Have you ever tried scrapple and do you like it?!

We’ve been spending the week breaking down our pigs and we are loving having our hands on every step of the process. This is 98lbs of beautiful bacon (before curing and smoking)!! All homegrown!
When we’re all done, we will have used these two pigs from “nose to tail” meaning that we’ve done something with nearly every part of the animal. Only a little more than one tub of waste will be thrown away! I’m glad to have given them the best life doing pig things in the pasture and they only had one bad day. They will now nourish our family, and I’m so thankful for that!

So what’s your opinion on Daffodils? I always thought they were kind of boring and garish, all crayon yellow. But I’ve been swayed into adding them to my top 5 favorites!
1) They are one of the first flowers of the year to bloom! Their cheery faces sometimes even poke through the snow!
2) They smell INCREDIBLE! Like seriously! I had no idea they had much fragrance. One variety in particular that I have will make my whole kitchen smell good with just a SINGLE stem!
3) They come in a huge array of styles and hues of yellow, orange, and white! Some even have green!

Thank you to everyone who was excited for our post yesterday! It makes me doubly excited to make cakes for you all! We had some questions about how to get your own. We are booking events and holding pre-orders and pop-ups as soon we we have all our certifications! I’ll let you know as soon as we have dates!

I made over 550 pieces of cake last week and I have to tell you, I just absolutely loved it! We’re still working towards our first pre-order, but I have my first flavors nailed down -

Vanilla Bean Cake / Raspberry Coulis / White Chocolate Meringue Icing

We planted 7,100 tulip bulbs on Saturday! And we’re still waiting on 2,500 to arrive. Spring is going to be beautiful! If you’re a florist, please be sure to DM us to be added to our availability email list. We’ll be starting it in the new year!

A few snapshots of our day yesterday. We cut down the dahlias, moved the chickens fence, pull carrots. Today’s task is planting our tulips! Fall is quickly turning to Winter and we’re trying to take advantage of the last bit of warmth the season has to offer!

Hi to all the new followers! It’s been a minute since we’ve introduced the whole fam. Basically we just do intros every time we get new family pictures 😆.
Curt and I (Kayla) are the doers behind all the pretty flower pictures, animals, and baked goods. We have the privilege of raising 4 young men to love Jesus and grow up outside, doing boy things. We love our home and are trying to create a life that we don’t want a vacation from. We do most everything here…homeschool, work from home, homemade and home-raised food.
We love teaching others how to do what we’re passionate about and are always thrilled to visit with people!

I guess I never followed up after making you guys guess what we’re up to next! Is this a good enough hint?!

We’re going to begin selling our homemade baked goods! We haven’t figured out all the logistics completely, but with flower season wrapping up, we’ll have more time to pour into it! I’m talking more about it in our stories!

What is your favorite color palette of flowers? I always tend to like peachy pinks and warm yellows like these. But then I put together moody burgundies or vibrant purples or bright oranges and corals and suddenly I’d choose those every time 😆.
Tell me what colors I should prioritize for next year! Florists-feel free to chime in as well! We’re growing for you too!

I’m Kayla, the grower behind the flowers! I have a restless entrepreneurial spirit that tires my husband sometimes. But it’s one of the things that energize me! We have our irons in a few different fires on our homestead and will soon be introducing another 🙈😅! We currently raise flowers, pastured meat, and Doberman puppies for profit. Any guesses on what’s coming next?!

We had such a lovely time hosting our “Homesteaders Unite” group last evening! I was able to give a small garden tour, answer question about growing flowers, and then the ladies all put together bouquets! Curt gave the men a lesson in chainsaw safety and proper tree cutting technique. We enjoyed our evening so much! We just love hosting and education!
