A Love Letter to Milford.

For the past five years, we have been proud owners of The Potager at 17 Bridge in Milford. It was our dream to bring food & garden together in one place - a charming river town was a bonus. Unencumbered by the expertise of running a cafe/flower shop, we started with a farm stand - inventing the wheel as we went. Growing our team with each season, navigating the pandemic and life events - our customers invigorated us. John made soups and sandwiches based on his own cravings, the weather outside and whimsy. And I’d do the same with baked goods, flower bouquets and arrangements inspired by the seasons and our garden.

Now that it is time for us to pass the baton to the next occupants of 17 Bridge Street, we’re aware that we are just a snip in time for this lovely place - and look forward to the next chapter of this building's story.

Dearest Milford Friends,

Fourteen summers ago, John and I went on our first date. I was new to the area and we got to know each other on journeys to favorite destinations, we could not seem to get enough of farm stands, barns and gardens - and each other - and would enjoy every opportunity to turn left, when we were supposed to turn right. On this occasion, he took me to a sweet yellow farmhouse in the town of Milford-coincidentally, the same spot as my favorite farm stand out back. It was a busy Sunday so we were grateful to get a seat at the front table by the window. The room was crowded and servers were on point delivering thoughtfully delicious meals - my plate was filled with farm fresh eggs, fruit, salad greens, sweet potato biscuit and “just made” jam. You may have guessed already, love was in the air that day - literally - at the original Lovin’ Oven.

From that day, our adventures continued and part of our journey has been the most rewarding…owning the same building where the adventure began and creating another reason for people to visit this special place.

We have a sense – and have felt the encouragement from previous occupants like the old Postmaster in his tall hat, and all the others to follow. Maybe the good vibes and laughter are sealed into the walls. We are grateful to have shared the good feelings of this place, and can't wait to see what wonderfulness comes next.

Thank you to our customers who have become friends for being so gracious and encouraging (and patient!) – stopping to chat and share a sliver of their lives with us – letting us know our efforts are worth it! For that, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
