Grand Warner Theatre - Milwaukee

07/28/2014

This week are meeting with four Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Board members to try to move this proposal along.
Friends, Our plan would save the MSO nearly 18% off of their current venue costs. They complain about cost cutting and cutting back on number of musicians but the real savings can be in the cost of concert venue, the cost of the storage and shipping concert gear for EVERY concert event and the cost of Chorus rehearsal space and the cost of MSO office space. With the Grand-Warner, all of this would be under one roof for the first time in MSO history.`

If only the message gets through.

We have had meetings this month and are meeting with Milwaukee office of Development concerning the purchase of part of 2nd street for the stage expansion. Also we will need the alley on the north side of the theater in order to building the annex.

Scott,
In recent weeks there has been a lot of fuss about the Milwaukee Symphony and moving. We are a prime possible location. They would not have to invest a dime and we would be able to give them a hall with more seats (300 more) , larger stage (when finished remodel) and with the new proposed annex, a place to store everything. A real home. Some of their people have talked with us about either moving the organ at Uihlein Hall or getting a new one. A theater organ per se would not be able to provide the classical or concert organ that the Aeolian-Skinner at Uihlein would be able to. Other than that a true theater organ would have very little use. A concert organ would be available for any orchestra performance or choral concert or recital.
Bottom line: Yes, a proper pipe organ would be needed for the GRAND-Warner- and the empty space from the old organ provides some space for certain sections.

from Grand-Warner Theatre Trust officers - Thanks for the facebook notes and other emails. We are behind our proposed schedule but WE ARE MOVING ALONG and making progress. There will be an announced meeting for interested people at the theater but the date had not been worked out with Theater staff yet. As soon as that happens it will be announced on this site and on the website.

2nd round of thanks goes out tonight - even more people have voiced their support and some are volunteered to help out. We are looking to late May to pull all these people together.

Thanks to those that have emailed about the theatre. April 2013 status report: The paperwork for Wisconsin charter status will be done by mid-May. In the meantime, negotiations are on-going for purchase of the property. The building is owned by one entity and the land is owned by several entities. So bringing this all together is quite a challenge. We are working on it and will continue to see this through.

We are also pulling more of our staff and volunteers together. We are aiming to have this group meet at the theatre in late May. We will announce the date and time when all of these people are on board.

The website is in progress but not officially open yet.

There is a direct email address to use for theatre business and that is: [email protected]

Feel free to email us for questions and also to volunteer to help with this project.

February 2013 update: revised basic floor plan was developed yesterday and is making the circle for approval and to help solicit more donations. The main theatre will always be the same but back-of-stage areas will be expanded and an addition built on the north. More later on the Web site.

Also from the Grand Warner Theatre Trust: Eventually we will need volunteers to help out. To save some costs of rehab and restoration we will have a massive clean-up plan to put into place once all the paper work is completed and ownership is secure. the place has been closed for a long time and needs a lot of clean-up. More information later this spring.
