I have a word of warning for our fellow vendors who use Wedding Wire. For months we have received what can be best described as incomplete or suspicious inquiries through . All have the minimal information, a name, wedding date and little else. No phone number, venue listed, email address and strangely almost all for the 23rd of whichever given month that the wedding is supposedly taking place in. Keep in mind that most of these dates fall on a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday, not your typical dates for weddings, especially in these amounts. We (located in Milwaukee) had such an inquiry yesterday which had a Madison phone number listed. While doing my due diligence, I noticed that it was for a cleaning company located in Madison and it had no connection to the name listed on the inquiry. If we ever hear back from them (most often we don't) we receive a generic "This is not a good fit for me" response and no further interaction as to why we might not be a good fit. Today. we received a call from a Madison area restaurant who had an inquiry from a "bride" who was supposedly having her reception here at our location in March of 2025. She had asked since it appeared that we don't allow outside catering at our venue (we don't) and wanted to call and confirm. I'm not sure of the endgame here but suspect that it has to do with algorithmic impressions and interactions to boost the appearances of users.

I'm not sure if this is happening to just a few of us but wanted to make fellow industry professionals aware in the event that they may be spending money needlessly with Wedding Wire or are also being scammed.

Our Story

We are Steve (Oz) and Laurie Ozbolt, the owners of Emerald City Catering & Events. We want nothing more than to make your event special and meaningful to you, with delicious food, of course. Emerald City Catering & Events was founded in 2009. Oz has had a passion for cooking for as long as he can remember. He was always playing with his mom’s pots and pans on the floor in the kitchen. Some of his fondest childhood memories are of family gatherings around a fantastic meal prepared by his parents who let him help with the preparations.

As a youngster, Oz would assist his Dad in creating homemade sausages known as Dad’s Brats and Grandpa’s Hickory Smoked Sausages. Eventually, his Dad deemed him worthy of the secrets of the recipe and passed them on to him. He also learned to create some of the finest desserts and Croatian specialties at his Mom’s knee. His parents were the primary influence on his culinary career.

When he turned forty, Steve decided to turn his passion into a business.

We began by renting the basement kitchen of Blessed Sacrament Church. The church Steve grew up in. With the last name of Ozbolt, he’s been called Oz since first grade, leading to the name Emerald City Catering. After two years, we moved to a location in South Milwaukee and primarily offered take-out and off-site catering. In 2018, we moved to the former Walker’s Maple Grove location to be able to provide on-site catering and banquet services. We are honored to carry on the family traditions of memorial lunches, weddings and other parties that many families in the area have with this building.
