Our Story
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx, where x=independently organized event, in which smaller groups of people all over the country are granted license to curate, plan and hold a TED conference. In the Spring of 2014, a group of students from UW-Milwaukee found interest in this program and were granted a license to hold the first TED event in Milwaukee. TEDxUWMilwaukee is a completely student run organization, that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At our TEDx UWMilwaukee event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection between people. Since 2014, our organization has grown to partnering with dozens of local and national companies, and has brought in thousands of audience members who are interested in hearing about new ideas and starting new conversations. As far as the future sounds, TEDxUWMilwaukee hopes to go nowhere but up. The organization is a very dedicated job that we hope students interested in nonprofit finance, local business partnership and sponsorship, marketing, advertising and design, social media, stage design, video production, team building, speech curation and event production will find a place to build their skills and watch as a huge project they have dedicated so much work to will finally come to fruition.
Additionally, our main goal is for TED Talks to become a staple in the Milwaukee community. We want to create a space for people to open their mind to ideas that they have never thought of before and then start conversation within those spaces to improve the lives of those living in the city and outer lying areas.
